A glorious day to be on the river, a lovely small stream, and should have managed a few more fish really but getting the flies down was the issue I think given the fairly quick flow to the fishy pocket water, and the lack of rising fish (there were a few but not many). I will be ordering some more tungsten flies and adding some split shot to my kit for next time. All four fish were around 8/10" with two taken on a pt nymph, one on a grhe and one came to a black klinkhammer. I will try to do better next time, as always, but my electric fence shock tally definitely needs to come down!

The Hindwell looked fishable when I arrived after lunch but the heavy rain from the morning soon started to colour and raise the brook.
Some Olives hatching and even saw a couple of rises but couldn't tempt anything.

It certainly didn’t feel like May with sleet and snow showers this afternoon.
Only fished a couple of hours this afternoon with plenty of olives hatching but still no risers.
5 trout on nymphs 6 to 8 inches.

Fished the top section for a change parking at knill Bridge and walking back downstream a few hundred yards.
Water low and clear as expected but a warm afternoon so I was hoping to see a few more flies and some rising fish.
A few flies were hatching but nothing rising so fished nymphs.
I found I had to go quite heavy to find the fish but once I did caught 4 in the deeper pools.

Just one 10 inch WBT from the upper section. Gorgeous hot sunny day, maybe not the best for fishing!

Second trip to Knill and the fishing was fantastic. Used duo and had 13 trout between 6"-9". Morning fish fell to the nymph, with mixed takes in the afternoon. It's a pleasant day to fish Knill as always; clean river and crystal clear water.

Blessed to fish Knill. The river is really clean, has a good flow and the water is crystal clear. There are a lot of tiny fresh water shrimps, hiding under rocks.
Started upstream of Knill Farm, fishing a duo. 3 trout took size 16 hare’s ear jig. One was an impressive 15 inches.
Then moved to the lower section. The flow here were much stronger with good depths. Carried on with the duo but alternating between different bead sizes to suit the flow. Took one trout and a crayfish!!
It was a blessing to fish the river this clean. The water quality reminded me of mountain streams in the French Pyrenees.

A dull, windy, cool day with intermittent rain. About right for the first trip out of the year!! At least I didn't blank. 2 small brownies from the same spot. Both to a PTN . Fished the lower section from 10:00 till 17:00. A word to the wise, only the first field is fishable as the second one has sheep fence topped with barbed wire .Same on the opposite bank.
