Fished two Crai beats today - Danycraig in the morning and Upper Crai after lunch. Both fished on 3WT with dry fly - Adams Para or Klinkhammer. I found the two beats quite different. Not much action below the bridge at Danycraig but hooked into 4 WBT above the bridge in slow pools. The 4 fish were between 10" and 14" but am I allowed to tell you about the one that got away? Bent my 3WT double and made several line stripping runs before it broke the line at the hook just as I was about to land it - it had to be 18"-20" fish and would have been a PB - shame. So Danycraig has some big fish in it. Upper Crai gave up 9 WBT and by contrast these were generally much smaller fish although included 3 or 4 at around 10". Very pleasant day fishing in a lovely valley. Either beat is a great half-day.

Caught 2 small Brown Trout to about 6-8 inches on a small, black wet fly on the upper stretch of the beat. Also caught 6 small Salmon Parr to about 6 inches on the same fly. All fish were returned to the river in a good condition.

Weather windy and squally so not really ideal for fly fishing. Access good although banks beginning to become overgrown and not possible to walk back to the start point without staying in the water and wading. Bottom very slippery and felt-soled and studded boots plus a wading stick essential. Tried upstream nymphing but no takes and no fish seen apart from a few very small fry. Saw a few Mayfly braving the elements but not really a hatch and no interest from the fish. However a pretty spot and with a warm summer's day there would probably more signs of life and fish.

A truly delightful wild stream with good and well maintained access and a great variety of pools and runs. Occasional fly hatches but little fish activity. A cold and brisk south west wind was unhelpful. Water low and clear. Catch 0, but I will return another day.

Water crystal clear and quite low. Seemed like good conditions but didn't so much as see a fish. To be fair there were no flies hatching but with such clear conditions and Polaroid's I was surprised not to see any all day. Checked under a few rocks and there were some nice sized nymphs in evidence so fly life is there. Beautiful stretch though and just a joy to be out with my boy.

Very cold and windy made fishing almost impossible. Had a bit of a walk the water looked in great condition but still very cold. Didn't fish but would love to try it on a better day.
