River at a nice height after recent rain. Initially overcast but brightened nicely through the afternoon. Fished all the way up with a combination of dry fly and a New Zealand style nymphs. Pleasant fishing especially at top and bottom. Relatively easy to scale the banks when needing to navigate fallen trees etc. Found it relatively hard going today and just had a couple of fish on a black weighted nymph (but not to hand), with a miss to a take on a dry Adams. All in all a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

No joy with the dry fly in the bright weather, 3 wbt, one at 8", caught on a small gold bead hares ear under a nz wool indicator. Water lower than I expected, requiring almost unlimited patience in amongst the roots and branches! It is what small stream fishing is all about however and it is located in a beautiful valley.

7 BTW upto an impressive 13". Fished Klink & Dink. Most fish came to size 18 pheasant tail. Very enjoyable afternoon.
Note: The bridge, mentioned in the map, is closed. For those planning to visit in a near future, please plan alternative routes. There is no phone signal there. It's a good idea to have offline map downloaded before hand.

Water low and clear as you'd expect; several takes of a dry didn't stick but a lovely 12" fish took a nymph at the head of a deeper pool.

Fished late p.m. and evening. One small trout to a black klinkhammer. Very quiet in all respects. Found on viewing catch returns later that DR had fished same beat earlier that day - that's my excuse. Must get out earlier.

Evening first exploration of this beat in a peaceful valley beneath the Sugarloaf. Water was low and very clear with a good flow, perhaps helped by the reservoir at its head. A couple of fish rising in the deeper pools at the lower end. Couldn't manage to get close enough to put a dry fly to them in the still conditions without spooking them. Nymphed the thin pockety water further up and had just the one 6" trout on a PTN, but well worth the visit.
