No luck today fished from about 0930 until 1700. Overcast and gusty. Did see 2 trout caught by 2 different anglers 1 on fly, 1 baited.
Lots of discarded line some complete with hooks and shot, looks like evidence of 'night' lines.

Thought I’d go further afield today. Very nice day out. Challenging fishing with it’s fair share of snags but very rewarding all the same. For such a small river this beat holds some sizeable, shaded pools. Lots of small trout, with 8 to net and same again away early. Also some seemingly very tame fish which led to some entertaining sight fishing. Only managed to fish the downstream half plus a tad today. Cheers WUF

My 3 boys aged 5 to 8 fished the Usk Reservoir fishing worm both on the bottom and by float. the only they caught around 15 to 20 small Perch ( don't know why these fish are in a trout fishery and who put them in) 4 guys around a hundred yards from us were also bait fishing and catching well( I was wondering what wonder bait they were using) as they seemed to adopt more or less the same methods as us.

We were both fly fishing I had a small browny (returned) and a small rainbow, my mate only had a 1lb browny (returned). It was our first time on Llwyn-On and we thought fly fishing on the reservoir was quite poor and hard going!

Great to be back by the Usk again!
Although I don't think of July as being the best month, the conditions were good. Started at 2.30pm, and nothing at all until about 6pm. Then caught a very fat 2lb trout on an upstream nymph in fast water, missed a second, and finally caught a third of about 1lb around 8pm.
Great afternoon!

Arrived to find the river up and chocolate brown with a fair pace to it Very quiet day with nothing troubling the rod top except vast amounts of blanket or silkweed which coated everything, masking the hookbait and smothering the feeder.
Looking at the river level gauges everything seemed to be gradually dropping in the evening which is when bites started to occur. An eel of 1.5lb started it, a gnarly battered looking barbel of not quite 5lb gave a great fight despite its torn, bent and mangled tail not to mention a 50p sized sore on its flank.
A chublet of 6oz swallowed a 16mm pellet and finished with one of 2.5lb on meat.
Can't wait to return though to what is a breathtakingly beautiful stretch. All sorts of creatures to be seen, egrets, herons, buzzards, deer, all manner of birds but the crowning glory was a goldcrest sat in the tree above me.
Stunning
