River level increased further overnight. Fished down the bottom end of the beat, very pacy and plenty of weed coming through. Could only hold when ledgering on the near side margin. All 4 fish came from that line on pellet.

Area:Lower Wye
Beat:Wyebank
Fishing:Coarse

River was high and coloured (1.7m at the river level monitoring station) with lots of weed and logs being washed downstream.
Difficult conditions but I managed a 7.5lb barbel on the second cast. A massive fight in the strong flow.

Beat:White House
Fishing:Coarse

River up and pushing hard. With so much debris coming through we were forced into the nearside banks out of the main flow. Ground too heavy to drive down to the bankside parking areas meant a long walk to the river followed by another long walk to the top of the beat to find fishable swims. For our efforts we were rewarded with a barbel each of 6lb. Not a memorable day on The Wye.

River still up and pushing through, but it started to drop around noon. The late afternoon conditions were good and resulted in 10 barbel to 8.2, 7 chub (one over 5) and an eel. A good end to our 5 days on the Wye-what a stunning area, catching fish is a bonus!

Beat:Aberystwyth Angling Association
Fishing:All Species (in season)
No. of Anglers:2
This was supposed to be day 1 of a 3 day trip to Upper Wye beats for grayling - but the weather had other ideas! Everything east of the Cambrian Mountains was running high so we looked west - to the Ystwyth, which was also in spate but then settled on the Rheidol, which according to web sites was low - and so it proved. After 2 hours and 1 6" brown trout we concluded that the chance of a salmon was nil and headed for the hills - to Llyn Oerfa, not a water we have tried before but which does produce some good fish. Nothing was stirring however but JB managed to tease a fish up on a skated sedge - and it was a fat clonker, not weighed but estimated at 2lbs at least. Having the Aberystwyth waters on the web site certainly gives more options but we didnt want to go back again - so day 2 and 3 are wash outs given more rain. Hope the salmon boys will be happier next week....
