A lovely late autumn day saw the river and surrounding fields shrouded in mist early on. The river was up and rising and was really pushing through under the bridge. I fished in the slacker water at the bottom of the beat but alas the fish proved elusive. I had a very pleasant day soaking up the atmosphere and am already planning my return. Thanks W&U.

It was great to be back at courtfield ! Having recently been washed off , a much better day than expected a bit of rain this morning, then from 11 o’clock onwards it was fine and mild the river was rising a little but not much and had a nice colour, I fished the meadow about to swims up from the manhole swim mostly close in fished all the usual baits pellet meat but couldn’t get a bite ! Then at 3 o’clock tried halibut flavour meat and started getting knocks but no positive bites so in desperation I struck at a knock and found what the small bites were ! A good eel about 2lb so at least it saved a blank ! And I did see 4 fallow dear on the far bank and an otter made an appearance going up the river on the far side , all in all a great day to be out on the river.

River was rising with a fair bit of debris coming down but was still confident fishing the pool at the bottom of the beat. Sadly no action but I had a great day anyway! The view is stunning. Thanks W&U.

I fished only the upper part of the beat so maybe the grayling were in the lower piece! Only caught one out of season trout, no grayling.

Always like this beat, good variety of water A day for czech nymphing in the deep gutter that runs along bottom half of beat.
Good grayling at about 2 lbs caught on an orange pheasant tail nymph One good fish lost on a size 12 pink shrimp
Great day until the rain set in about 2.00pm and the level started to rise. Stayed at Caer Beris, excellent as usual!

Water surprisingly clear and at a good level. Tried nymphing with French Leader, shortlineheavy nymphs and then longer leader with spiders and heavy jig hook nymphs. Hard work in cold conditions @4° most of the day. Two grayling both 12" to caddis pattern.

Beat:Colonel's Water

Fishing:Winter Grayling

Overcast and drizzly. Tried french/upstream nymphing without success.
Water level good with steady flow, perfect nymphing water but again did not see a fish move.
Good water for wading (so long as you avoid any redd's)and some interesting water at top and bottom of beat.
Will certainly be back! Lovely beat. Stayed at Caer Beris-excellent!

7 x grayling 12-16 inches, 3 x out of season trout 11-13 inches, trotting. A very cold easterly blowing today made an open river quite unpleasant by late November standards. One dead rainbow trout found in the shallows and I wonder where that came from? Washed out of somebody's lake?

7 Grayling
