Excellent days fishing . despite arriving late ( 1pm) I was into the chub immediately from the swim in front of the hut . 4 casts produced 4 chub , probably around the 3 lb mark . i caught chub steadily for the next couple of hours with the occasional smallish barbel ( 6-7 lb ) . then there was a lull of about an hour from 1500 - 16.30 when it went completely dead , nothing , zilch , picked up again and caught more chub and barbel till i packed in at 19.30 hours. most of the chub were in the 3-4 lb range and the barbel were smallish until my last cast when i had a near double figure barbel..strangely none of the barbel were caught on meat but quite a few of the chub were . river was low and fast with floating weed being a problem. all of the barbel were caught using hinders Flatz pellets..

It’s been a while since I’ve seen the river so low. Very speculative days fishing but gave it a go anyway This was my tenth visit this season with no salmon caught or seen.Trout usually show some interest in the salmon fly here, but not today. There are a worrying number of predatory birds around now. I must have spooked eight or nine cormorants early on plus a few grey herons. And that’s in addition to the Mergansers. Serious rain needed to have a chance of saving another bleak season.

A good day on the river with all the usual sights and sounds including a military helicopter trimming the trees. All fish came to luncheon meat on the bomb. Nothing came to feeder and pellet.

Needed a bit more water on......difficult conditions today. 4 anglers zero fish, not a single bite between us. Not many pegs available in the deeper water section. Disappointing but still a great day out.

Much harder today as arrived to find the river 18" up on yesterday and some colour. Struggled through most of the day, even reverting to putting out small lures and managed to bag 2 nice perch, the biggest of which was 2.5lb. The later afternoon then delivered again with 3 chub to 4lb and a nice 8lb barbel on the last cast of the day. Very enjoyable trip and will definitely be back.

The access gate couldn't be opened (called the Wye and Usk foundation to log it) but the additional walk isn't onerous.
Cool upstream breeze kept things quiet with not much fly life. Things picked up on a sheltered bend below the crossing point after 4pm. 2 trout, one a pound and a half, the other a half pound. Both on different dries. Both returned.
