Area:Middle Wye

Beat:Foy Bridge

Fishing:Coarse

No. of Anglers:1

Did not fish. We booked Foy and the Creel. The River was extremely low and this stretch is full of streamer weed. Very limited access to any swims, banks are very overgrown. We simply could not get down the areas we wanted to fish so did not even bother. Waste of money. Would not recommend fishing this stretch unless you have waders and a box / platform to get out in the river.

Booking Office Note: The River Wye is a SSSI protected river, which makes cutting swims very difficult - although some swims have been cleared along the beat. The streamer weed (Ranunculus) is also a SSSI protected species, so it can't be cut and cleared, but is also very important habitat for the fish. The low river will also make access more difficult, and we do always encourage anglers to take waders or wellies with them to suit all circumstances.

1 bite, 1 trout Caught, caught around 8.30 then was dull all day after, bit of a windy day with cloud and sun at certain times of the day, noticed on arrival that there were campers parked down in the west corner with a lit fire so there was no room for fishermen in that corner, clearly night fishing

Booking Office Note: If you ever see someone suspected of night fishing, please ring the Rangers or report it to NRW immediately.

Fished trout "fly only" and walked down the far end of the reservoir without any success despite starting quite early. walked back to dam end by the ticket machine and fished all along that bank, but again no luck - I have a theory that if the wind is blowing into the dam then the trout don't seem to take fly. However, I've always had better luck when the wind is blowing the other way. Another blank day, but the weather was nice.

Well fancied a quick session on another Arrow beat , so with Mrs A working till three , and the mowing done early , rain came in from ten till about midday , so opted for the Titley beat . . .

Arrived at the yew tree parking area at bang on one , lovely weather conditions , and certainly better than a few days ago , reading only seventeen degrees in my truck , overcast and a slight breeze , spot on !!!! Rigged up my usual six foot , two weight and opted for a Parachute Greenwells , fishing initially between the ranunculus , accurate casting needed , and first nice brownie , just up from the footbridge , fish hammering the dry in the clear channels between the streams of weed , always amazes me , seem to appear out of knowwhere , superb fun , smash takes on the Greenwells . . .

Had three in the first two hundred yards , fish ranged from seven to ten inches , nice start to the afternoon , having to wade very carefully as some of the more shallower pools , fish very spooky , and brownies seemed to be in the faster water today , had another tight in to the far bank , another lovely rise to the dry . Also fished a Para Adams today , equal success . . . Fifth fish was caught on a nymph fished deep , absolute lunker , probably my best Arrow fish this season so far !!!! Must have been fourteen inches , a cracker , and put a nice bend in the six weight rod !!!!

Last fish before I decided to call it a day , was on the dry , head of a nice pool , just off from the fast water , nice take , and a cracking ten inch brownie to hand . . . Did see some crayfish claws and legs neatly positioned on a pebbled area , must be Tarka , or those mink I've seen here regularly ??

Anyway , a spot on three hours didn't go up to the weir , but had a ball in the time I was there , as always a superb place to spend a couple of hours , great fun . . . . . Back soon !!!!!
