Fished beats four and five from 8am to 8pm. Between the two of us we fished six swims in an effort to find the barbel. One fished pellet with robin red ground bait feeder, the other mainly single boilie on carpet of mixed ground bait.
The wooded swims on beat five produced good chub to 5lb all day. The open swims after the second "S" bend produced just two chub during the day. However as the sun went down four barbel were hooked, all subsequently were lost in some horrid snags which we assume were submerged logs. This section of the river beyond the backwater looks gravelly, with serenely smooth water. Don't be fooled!
Regrettably nowhere else produced barbel so the day ended with a great catch weight of eighteen hard fighting chub. Fish were taken throughout the day and rotating through four or five swims seemed to work best.
We will be back for the barbel very soon. This is a great venue in terrific scenic countryside.

What a fantastic place to sit and wait for bites. Scenery and wildlife outstanding. Unfortunately despite what looked like perfect conditions we found it very difficult to locate and catch fish.

My second visit to the Wye for my sins. Have fished this beat many time times and is on the not very difficult scale. Easy parking and now a gate that works to access field. Water level up by a foot but enough colour in the water to make the extremely sunny conditions still reasonable. Most fish due to the weight of water were in lower to middle part of river. Lots of small trout around and a few were rising. Could only connect with one good grayling even though it looks very small in the picture - thats the GoPro I have been using - smallest camera on the market. River levels falling that weekend and all we need is more cloud.

Well with th weather an absolute picture at six this morning , did the chores , feeding the pigs , pooch a good walk etc etc then decided to zip up to the Edw at Hundred House . . . .
Arrived at the bridge about half nine , looked superb and already alive with insect life , happy days , water a lovely level too , opted initially for small Parachute Greenwells , and started down by the bridge , the odd rise and up from the bridge ; nice pool , first six inch brownie on . . . Lovely feisty take , nice start !!!! Took a bit to really get going though to be fair , and by half ten some regular rises , often tight in to the bank , Great fun , some fish small this morning , but still a buzz on light gear . . . .
Some nice fish amongst a tally of twelve this morning too , two of the fish over twelve inches , lovely run around on the six foot , two weight rod , spot on !!!! The farmer was cutting the grass in the field next to the river didn't seem to affect the fishing too much , although I'm sure it picked up a bit once he'd finished . . . He must have startled a fox , because it came blundering down the bank into the river , didn't see me , shook itself dry and then just sauntered off . . . . Things you see hey !!!!!
Over all a cracking there and a half hours , some superb sport , and a real mix of fish sizes , lovely feisty brownies here on the Edw , and masses of insect life too , also fished a CDC and elk this morning , as plenty of sedge activity , and equally effective , with some splashy aggressive takes to it , Great fun !!!!! Shall head down here again very very soon , probably middle of next week , spot on !!!
