as much as i love this beat, when the water is high it is very difficult and somewhat dangerous too fish ! ( 8.5 on ddol gauge )
luckily it was crystal clear so i could see where i was going but it was running so fast it was hard too stand ! and to cap it all the wind got up during the morning and filled the river up with leaves !. somehow i managed to catch a tiny grayling later on which somewhat saved the day.

Wash off at the Creel as the Wye was out of its banks, we rebooked White House after our success the previous day. The water was in the fields but we were determined to give it a go. We landed another 11 barbel which was pleasing given the challenging conditions.

Having read the negative comments about this venue, it’s only fair to give our view of this beat:
1)The track down to the river is muddy when it’s wet but no problem with a 4x4 and it’s not too far to to park at the farm and walk down
2) We didn’t get a shock off the electric fence as we used the plastic handles
3) The track you have to cross before you go down the hill is covered in slurry because that’s what cows do !!
Back to the fishing. The river was bank top high and still rising but in our experience good conditions for catching barbel. We ended the day with 26 fish all caught on the usual pellet and feeder method

26 Barbel
