Totally different river compared to a few miles downstream, gin clear and running at a lovely height. First time on the beat, and it won’t be the last! 4 brownies landed, 2 each, smallest about 6”, biggest a pound and a quarter - what a beaut!

The river was in spate so a wash-out of a day. Too dangerous to try and get into the water. Also many trees down blocking access.

I arrived early in heavy rain, high winds, 8 degrees and white horses breaking all over the lake, so wasn't overly optimistic. Fished from the damn up the east bank using trad wets and nymph/buzzer teams but with no joy. By lunchtime the wind had died down and temperatures climbed slightly which set off a decent sedge and caddis hatch but didn't see a single fish rise all day. I concentrated my afternoon at the damn wall as it was more sheltered and caught a very small but beautifully marked trout on a black pennell at point fly. I had another on shortly after but it quickly came off again. The west and northern east banks have a really wild feel about them and i cant wait to come back hopefully in better weather.
