this was unfishable today and not just because of the rain. on the south bank there are about 3 areas to fish but along the camp site and the other side of the bridge there just isn't anywhere to fish if the river is too high to wade as it was today. beyond the bridge there are no places to access the river as it is too overgrown with even a trapped sheep unable to get back up (we told the farmer). very disappointing stretch which could do with a new description on the website.

Bad weather ruined great fishing.
We only managed to stay out on the river for a couple of hours today as the rain was freezing cold and persistent.
That said, the trout were obliging and plenty were caught in that short time.
Beautiful stream and you really feel like you are getting away from it all.
Most fish were caught in deeper (some times only a few inches) channels in rapids.
One slightly larger (10 inch) trout , caught in a pool, put up a fight worthy of a fish three times its size.
We had booked both rods on this beat, but did see someone else fly fishing, who quickly disappeared when he spotted us.

Well , decided to give the Lugg a bash before the impending downpour , and to be honest initially it was spot on , overcast , mild , and the brownies were hitting the Mohican Mayfly with some vigour !!!! I fished half of a neighbouring club water and half of the Litton beat , and by midday , I must admit , i was beaten by the rain !!!!
The fish were definitely looking up , and smashing the mayfly pattern , I guessed that they would still remember what a big juicy mayfly tasted like , and they were coming up from some of the deep pools , and hammering it !!!! Always tricky keeping them on , with a large barbless fly , and in a tally of eight this morning , four threw the hook , and had two long range releases . . . . . . . . . .
The fish were in cracking condition , as always with the Lugg fish , and ranged from seven to twelve inches , with gorgeous colouration as always . . . . The nearby Cascob Brook , was a real torrent by midday , and I was ready to call it a day by half twelve , some Great sport , on a dank , soggy day , back to the Ponderosa , log burner on , and a large glass of something nourishing me thinks !!!!!!! Back to the lovely Lugg very soon , great to have some decent rain al last , spot on !!!!!!
