A few Yellow May Duns coming off right from the outset, these were soon joined by Olives of all sizes, the fly life seemed to build to a crescendo at around 3:30pm by this this time there were Mayflies, and even a hatch of March Browns, lovely to see so many types of fly in one day. By 4pm all had gone a little quiet except for the Yellow May Duns which continued to trickle off all afternoon. The fishing was difficult despite the fly life, rising fish would generally disappear as soon as you got near, I noticed in the Catch Returns there have been a lot of fish caught in the past few weeks so perhaps they’re getting a bit weary...or maybe it was the bright sunshine, either way I managed 4 to 12 inches today but enjoyed the challenge and missed way too many, lost a few too including one really big fish right at the end.

While nothing much was jumping of its own volition there was no shortage of rises to a Parachute Adams - almost a fish in every glide and head of every pool. The challenge was finding the bigger fish with more than fifteen at the sub- 4 inch length prior to changing up to a bigger fly not counted in the final total. This, along with the abundant fly life (including Mays and Yellow Mays) bodes well for future seasons. I was very happy to bring 9 larger fish to hand, including three 9-10” fish.

The beat map could do with updating - the footbridge is no longer there and there is a useful footpath to the north of the river which helps with access. Also beat markers (but not the map) suggest that part of the left bank near the properties near the (former) footbridge is private. I didn’t get round to fishing the separate upstream part of the beat.

A great day on a lovely tranquil beat and such good value.

Quite surprised to see the whole left bank cleared. It make casting and fishing easier but not sure if the trout are keen to drop into tails from the deep holes until last hour of daylight. Few fish rising, mainly juveniles. Best fish at 11inches.

Sunny day with river running clear. Good to see plenty of rises, mostly gentle sips, along beat. Frustratingly only able to connect with one fish and that quickly came unstuck! Still an enjoyable afternoon in great surroundings.

River level getting low enough for significant amounts of weed to be showing, a flush through would be welcome. A warm sunny day with plenty of fly-life evident including some yellow mays, but no fish taking them off the surface, or just below for that matter. Weighted nymphs accounted for six trout and one cock grayling all from the faster, oxygenated water.

Another lovely day for trout.
Firstly, a correction that a catch return filed for this beat earlier should have been filed for 7th MAY not 7th April 2019.
If anyone reading this can correct the date on the report please do so as I have no idea how to do it, sorry Barry for the error.
Decided to fish morning rise as rain forecast later in day. Fished tail end of the Chine Pool above Wood stream with a gold bead haresear and landed a beauty at 11.30, a 2lb trout in top condition..
Went down Woodstream later and landed a fish of half pound on a mayfly nymph at the groin.
Had a few splashers on dry white wulff at the rock later before the rise subsided.
Lovely day.

DC and GC fished today, the water was quite clear and at a nice height, the banks as mentioned by another angler are becoming overgrown so access is not easy, however if you can get to the water the occasional fish can be caught. This day the fly hatch was sporadic with very few mayfly and no surface activity, possibly due to the bright sun. All in all though a nice day on a pleasant beat.
