Lovely afternoon in the wildest of Welsh hills with sun and cloud and no rain. Little wind. The first time I've been here but the water level seemed perfect. Very little fly life about, and a minimal number of fish rising. However fish were taking throughout the session, all dry fly on a variety of Parachute Adams. A further trout lost when I caught the line in an overhanging branch. One trout taken. A number of very likely looking runs and pools where it was impossible to fish because of timber in the water.

Penpont looking lovely in the May sunshine....although squally showers from time time dropped the temperature significantly. We were on the river about 11.00 to find localised heavy hatches of March Browns - never seen so many before, fantastic ! Also large dark olives and occasional large stoneflies.

Fish looked up in hatches but still a challenge - PB lost all 3 hooked to long distance catch and release but JB brought all his to hand - 8", and 2 Penpont Porkers - 22 and 26". To be fair the 22" was a fat porker, the 26" probably weighed less as despite being full finned it was thin and had prominent teeth - probably an older fish struggling to get back to condition. All on dries.

Many thanks for a great day.

On the cold side for May , no hatches but decided to stick with dries , landed 3 wbt over 3 hours but no significant hatch until 2:30 when I had to leave !. Landed another one then had to make my way home . Wales looked glorious in the intermittent sunshine.
