Bit of a write off - arrived late (one hour before sundown) with no luck in the way of fish. Really nice setting though and the access was just as described. Will have to try again for later in the week!

River rising and water temp down slightly from previous few days, could only fish a couple of swims as the water was coming up so fast with loads of debris coming down

This was a bad miscalculation on my part, probably due to becoming desperate for a bit of river fishing. Given a river level of 0.90 at Cilmery and falling slowly, plus a Metcheck forecast of not too much in the way of showers, I booked on at Cefnllysgwynne in the hope that it might be down to 0.80 or 0.75 by this morning, just about viable for trotting from the bank. Wrong on all counts! Metcheck was wrong about the showers (BBC had it right), it rained heavily, the river rose rather than fell and coloured up with plenty of debris - gauge at 1.67 metres by this afternoon.

River was up and coloured but dropping. Cool wet start to the day but the sun came out later. Fished top field . River looked spot on in the glides but couldn’t really locate the fish had a chub and one small barbel that didn’t even move the lead !Meat and pellets were the order for the day.Fished both near bank and mid river but struggled to hold with debris building up on the line. A very enjoyable day in the scenic surroundings of the Wye Valley

Again very wet & muddy but ended up being a great day , got first barbel within 30 mins then feeding throughout the day, used pellet & red maggot, best was 9lb 7oz . Banks did get very slippy ! Interesting morning with pheasants landing in the river from a shooting party behind us they thankfully moved on. Very happy day.

This is a Beautiful quiet stretch, with stunning scenery. A lovely part of the Wye. River was up and fast flowing. Really muddy in all swims along the bank (from all the rain) and a bit dangerous with the steep access. Bites seemed to come quite regularly when in the right spot. Chub to 4lb and barbel to 8 1/2lb.
There were also two mink swimming and diving on the far bank opposite us, which seemed to scare the fish off at the end of the day. With no bites coming in the evening period.
7 Barbel, 2 Chub
