No fish today, as was expected but nice to spend a couple of hours on the river on the first day of the year. Took the family and my little boy (20 months old) held a fly rod and tracked the flies through the water with me for the first time :). Water high and coloured (20" on the Lugg cam gauge). Tried Czech nymphing through the deeper pools.

Fished hard, and threw everything at today - k&d, frnech nymph, indicator, dry, but nothing drew a fish. No takes, didn't see any rises, didn't see any fish. Have eked a few fish from this beat previously, but for such a good looking stretch of river, really surprised that more fish haven't been caught. Disappointing return every time visiting the beat, where other WUF beats have been much more productive.

A mild day and previous night for a session on the wonderful Wye. Started on the bottom section with no joy so after 4 hrs of fishing a couple of swims moved to the top meadow where I ended up with 2 average chub and 2 barbel which included my second double from the Wye ......fantastic! Fished the usual pellets and boilies on either the straight lead or feeder. Also tried meat with no joy. The river was still up a bit about 1.5ft with slight colour. A very enjoyable day will be back real soon!
