First session on the Wye this season , and what a scorcher! River flowing nice with some colour , almost perfect conditions but too hot for the barbel .
Managed to whip a few nice chub out which saved a blank , fish between 2 an 4lb . My usual trotting swim was occupied today so we went for pellet / feeder tactics .
Lovely enjoyable day , great to be back .

9” on the gauge today and the trout were game from the start.I was trying to target grayling but for most of the day, struggled to locate them apart from the odd fish. Trout were mostly modest size fish but with three of 10-11” and a 15” which gave a very good account of itself in shallow water. Taken on various soft hackled dropper offerings and weighted nymphs.
At 5.30 I decided to fish a stretch that I usually ignore from the right bank and have never waded. To my surprise, grayling were there in good numbers, all bar two being 10-14” adults which readily took the usual nymphs and pink spot grayling bugs.
Didn’t wet a dry fly after barely seeing a rising fish all session.
A nice day out especially after loafing around at home for the past week with another bout of covid.

A hot day. Barbel unhooked in the water, rested ,swam off strongly. All fish caught on Robin red pellets.
Lovely stretch and the gravel beach makes access to the river fairly easy.
Water temp 21.3c.
