Lower Stanton Farm was hosting a charity duck race which put the middle stretch of the beat out of action! Good weather and saw lots of fly on top and bottom ends but no rising fish. Caught one near top end on dry fly cast into fast run by roots.

Hot and sunny, and river low. Fished dries/emergers all day as fish were attracted even when nothing rising. Missed a lot of takes. No monsters caught, but 3 were 15-16". One or two very big fish moving in almost dried up tail of Sewage pool. Very nice beat.

Only spent 3 hours today on the beat and had 3 Grayling and a Brown Trout to hand. Started with a gold bead red necked ptn without success so switched to a green flash back ptn and what a difference. Second cast and I was into the first Grayling and so it proves it’s always worth experimenting.

Arrived to find a river which has felt the effects of the deluge last week. Fishable but clarity not great. Plenty of fly life with mayfly in swarms towards end of session but not a fish seen rising. Maybe they were on the nymph or maybe the lack of clarity. However, I was determined to stick with the dry shadow mayfly and drew up all 5 fish from likely runs. Missed a few too! Lovely couple of hours in beautiful weather and stunning surroundings.

Bright and hot day. Fished a dry fly for a several hours but no sign of any fish. Middle section of beat is marked as ‘no fishing’ presumably because it’s completely overgrown. Much of the rest is very overgrown.

River still a little high and quite coloured, very warm (25 C) and sunny. Good hatch of Mayfly throughout the day (fished from 8am until 3pm) but very few rising fish. Caught one 3" trout parr on a size 18 pheasant tail nymph, one 9" trout and another powerful 12" trout on a Mayfly imitation. Lots of blue damsels brightening up the margins.
