Well I did have intentions to go up to Claerwen Reservoir today but didn't fancy fishing the thick muddy banks as its still very low so I opted for my old favourite...... Court of Noke beat of the Arrow .
Turned up at the parking spot at half eight ! An immediate problem the huge herd of hereford bullocks were in the field!! Not wanting to mess with a load of mobile beefburgers I tacked up and headed down the road as you come up. There's a gate leading into the maize field. I went in there and although it seems daunting keep low and manouvre through the crop!! Which is reasonable as the canopy is pretty much above you !! You'll come out by the river bank, wing a left and commence up to the downstream limit of the beat !! Simples!!
Fished a single heavy Pheasant tail nymph, river is perfect except for the masses of leaves now falling !! No trout at all during my three hour session although really good fun on the small grayling!! One particular run had five in rapid succession , good to see . Only four or five inches ! Three of my tally of eleven were proper adult grayling all about ten inches in size !
A fun morning! Did catch a glimpse of the otter on the opposite bank! Big old boy too !! Wonder how his mornings angling went ....... !!
Anyway a fun kick of too my grayling season.! Good fun .. Think I'll give the Upper Severn @ Caersws a bash next week if levels stay decent!! Happy days !!

Fished from 7:30-11:30 on what was a very hot day reaching 28c later. A good fly hatch up to about 10:30 including, to my surprise, some mayfly. Very little surface activity. Water levels higher than I’d expected and the water a little coloured.
Caught and returned two very fine wild brown trout of 10” and 12” respectively. Two of the finest fish I’ve taken in a longtime. Both taken on a size 18 gold head ptn suspended under a klink. Sight fishing to a rising fish not an option.
The beat is quite wild and the access and wading a bit challenging for at least some of us on the wrong side of 60. Nevertheless, wonderful value for money.

Went down for a couple of hours in the evening. River up a bit and coloured. The evening turned cold and windy. Unsurprisingly little fly activity and nothing rising . Tried duo with ptn without success.

Continuing my exploration of the Wild Streams, I spent a few happy hours, late afternoon evening on this beat. Mostly able to navigate up river but exit and re-entry required a few times, banks are very steep and no avoiding head high nettles but not too difficult. River level was good and water clear. Landed a small grayling on my first cast. lots of flies around but nothing rising therefore stayed with Klinkhammer and a Polish Pheasant Tail on the dropper. Two trout to net with the PTN about 14" and 10". Three or four others wriggled off the hook. All fish safely returned. The bullocks in the field you have to cross were curious but friendly!
