Beat:Arrow Monkland

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

Fished from 11:30am - 2:30pm. Steep banks and high, dense vegetation extending a fair way from the river made accessing this beat extremely difficult. I only managed to enter the river in about half a dozen places and wading a decent distance upstream was also hard due to deep pools.
I ended up catching 2 small trout and a grayling from a long riffle using a gold bead GRHE, with 2 bigger trout caught later on cdc dry flies. I caught one of around 11 inches that I spotted making splashy rises in the head of a pool upstream of the road and another one of a similar size that had made a gentle rise above one of the weirs. Lots of fry seen in the margins.

Beat:Arrow Monkland

Fishing:All Species (in season)

Fished lower beat closest to road. Note that for most of this section the river runs between 3-6 foot banks so access isn't easy for wading and its quite overgrown. Too challenging for me so will try top beat next time.

Arrived late afternoon and saw a fish rise before I had cast a line, caught 1 trout about 12" at the top of the beat on a gold head pheasant tail. Had another take just above weir which I missed, good couple of hours.

Not impressed at all with this beat, heavily overgrown access above first weir not good and very overgrown elsewhere. What fish were rising I could not get near due to overhanging branches and vegetation.

Three trout, best of which was a surprise 14". Also lost a much bigger fish above the weir to an inexplicable hook pull, think it was a chub.

Fished from midday until 5pm, walking river from downstream end to top of beat. Very few fish rising and all but one caught on gold head nymph fished under various dries New Zealand style. Water at good level and cooling down after rain. 8 brown trout, one at 1lb 9oz and another at 13oz, remainder between 6 and 10 inches. Two taken.

Just one trout caught, about 5 inches, on a tups. Water very low, the one branch of the stream held hardly any at all. Quite a few fish seen, though, but fishing not helped by the bankside vegetation and overhanging branches. This was a shame as this seems an otherwise nice stretch of water.
