Fished the peg above the beach. The chub were obliging despite the swimmers, paddle boarders and the 20 people that got off their kayaks and had a BBQ on the beach! Not really peaceful but that's not the fault of the Wye and Usk foundation.

First time on this beat. Arrived at 1pm, anticipating that any good dry fly action would not be until well into the evening. Blustery and overcast, with some sunny spells. Access to the river was a real challenge. Virtually no work has been dome to maintain any paths or access points to the river. The banks are massively overgrown with Himalayan balsam or bracken. I’m over 6’ tall and the bracken dwarfed me at time. It was impossible to see the river, let alone access it for over 70% of the beat. Given the day ticket price, I thought this was very poor. At a handful of points it was possible to get down to the water, but many of these points were down steep banks. I’m pretty fit so could manage it. If you’re not a mountain goat avoid this beat.

Once I realised the bottom of this beat was the opposite bank to the Buckland beat, I bought an after 5pm ticket for Buckland and waded across the river (caught 5 fish - see Buckland). At the end of the evening I waded back across the river and fished the last 40 minutes on the Ashford House beat - searching under overhangs etc for the odd rising fish (there was negligible fly life). I managed to catch two decent trout each about 1.5lbs on dries. I doubt I’ll re-book this beat on any future trips.

Just booked an after 5pm ticket, as much of the Ashford House beat (my original choice) on the opposite bank was inaccessible. Very little fly life and virtually no rising fish until late. Caught 3 small fish in the afternoon, one nice brownie about 1lb late afternoon, and then late on one lovely trout about 2.5lbs - all on home-tied dry emerger patterns. This is a delightful beat, with lots of variety and interesting sections and good access. Like all the river its shows horrific signs of eutrophication - not a strand of weed growth to be seen anywhere. What it must have been like in its hey day?

Another hot day, arrived to see chub spawning on the gravel on the far bank, quite a spectacle that lasted for several hours.
But plenty of chub 3-5lbers still feeding in one swim, but very hard for the other angler.
Access good in places
Unfortunately no barbel

An excellent days fishing in perfect conditions, I only managed to get there early afternoon and started catching from the word go. Most of the fish were caught in the middle stretch on small dries. Biggest being a trout of 9"

Can't wait to return!!
