Fished for a couple hours Sunday morning, very different from my previous visit earlier in the week, the river had dropped 8 inches. What I lost in quantity I made up for in quality, 2 fish 12 inches plus, on Duo rig, fish taking size 16 nymph on 2mm bead.

Rather more inclement weather meant only one of the group fished for a couple of hours in the morning. The result was one Barbel.
In less than favourable conditions the four of us had 36 Barbel and 22 Chub in essentially three days of fishing. The average stamp of Barbel was around 7 - 8lb with a couple of scraper doubles, and the biggest Chub was approaching 5lb.
All in all an excellent trip to a stunning beat. Roll on next September!

Good start off the last Croy with 4 nice chub before it went quiet. All to feeder tactics. Tried rolling meat for the first time but no joy. It went quiet, so a quick chat to another angler saw me moving downstream where I got 2 small chub, small barbel and lost a good one to a hook pull. The afternoon spent trotting the float in where I got pointed to by the said angler. Not only spot and tactics but he also got me sorted with some spare tackle. Gent!! If you're reading it, thanks again! Got 11 chub and a barbel in the evening. Amazingly well kept beat.

River low but v clear. Cold biting wind and persistent rain all morning but eased a little in the afternoon.
Trout taken upstream nymphing (x2) on silver size 16 perdigon, downstream nymphing (x2) olive bead head nymph and two others. Some salmon parr too. All in all, a satisfactory day . improved by judiciously timed cups of tea and the odd fish or two.
6 Trout
