Idea river levels (great for August) but quite cold and gloomy with persistent drizzle and light rain. All fish bar two came to a size 18 BWO emerger or snipe and purple spider, the other two to a jig nymph fished deep. Many fast rising small grayling either turning before they took the fly or too quick for my reflexes, but the bigger ones connected solidly. Best grayling 12 inches, brown 10 inches, on a spider from the first pool in the Edw. A lovely beat to explore again early or late season.

A disappointing day for me. Cloudy, drizzly showers, cool, downstream wind. River low and clear. Hooked and lost one fish at about 10:30am (the silver flash as it rolled off suggests perhaps a grayling) but didn't see another fish for the next 6 hours. River conditions? Low stocks? Or just me? In One or two places trees have fallen right across the river necessitating an difficult exit. In one case up in the Lyonshall woods, that had to be on the wrong bank but I'm sure that was Ok.

1st time on this beat. Arrived very late in the evening and only fished for about an hour, so only covered about 100m of the beat. Very quiet; caught 1 x 8" BT from under the trees, on size 16 black emerger.

Day three on Howcaple river level still good some colour hot sunny midday so fished early and late ,four barbel in the 6-7lb range .

River running very low and clear, even after recent spell of heavy rain. Some parts of the beat inaccessible and a couple of trees down in the upper part of the beat.

Wonderful stretch of the Wye but the river here is very inaccessible and difficult wading. No Salmon showing today despite best efforts. Entertained by the RAF low level flying along this stretch of the Wye, buzzed on 3 separate occasions by a Chinook Helicopter, Tornado Fighter Jet and a very large Transporter plane, excellent!!

beautiful afternoon the fish seemed to be very skittish today. quite a few fish rising but all in the flat water.
