My first visit to this wild stream beat. A few fish were rising to a trickle of flies but fishing dry flies is hard on tree lined streams so adopted an approach that included flicking weighted nymphs into likely spots. Two nicely coloured (code for small) brown trout.

Lovely height and colour. Was going to fish in the evening but news of a 6 fish morning from the Rock pool of the rectory beat had me on the water at 3pm. In neck of Dolmeudw I missed a chance. Nothing in Orchard although PS had lost one there earlier. Popped up to Gromain and met JH who had just returned an 8lber from the Leaning willow. Walked up to tail of Spring Pool and 4th cast, which landed perfectly, just off the little island was taken as it started to swing. Cracking 80-100m 1st run as the fish headed down was followed by a long long wind back! JH came up to net the 14lb bar of silver (no lice). Lovely thick set hen fish.
Fished the neck of Cottage (without falling over!) and then it was 5.30 and time to head back to work.

Was the perfect weather conditions when I parked up in my truck at about eleven . . . . A steady westerly breeze , and thick cloud !!!!!!! Used my home tied traditional wets initially , as there was no surface activity , and used roaming tactics along the Eastern shore , picking off fish , not deep down , with various retrieves , sport was fantastic and as usual the black finned tribe put up a battle once hooked !!!! Spartans in their own right I'd say !!!!!!! Mid afternoon , some splashy rises started appearing around the area of the lone pine tree , so tried one of my small sedge patterns , and was taken with relish , accounting for seven , before it started looking a bit worse for wear !!!!!!! Ringing the changes was the order of the day , and by three , rises had finished , so I opted for a wet Coch y Bonddu and a small bibio , which seemed to do the trick , and fished that all the way up to the culvert , which accounted for another eight beautiful brownies , some a quick pic taken , then slipped back into their peaty abyss !!!!! The wind was loosing some of its poke by five , so fished between the lillies in boathouse bay , which seemed to winkle out the bigger fish , taking two cracking fish , superb condition , with bright red spots ,contrasting against the shimmering bottle green sides , melting into brown on their backs , absolutely superb day , and so on a high , I packed up at six , a happy chappy, with twenty one brownies caught and released , and several more missed , this was one of the best days for a long time that I've had at Bugeilyn . . . . . . . . . I shall be back again in search of the finny tribe , and I tip my hat to you Llyn Bugeilyn for an outstanding day !!!!!!!!!
