Sunny, cloudy, river low and clear. There were plenty of rising fish, but were being highly selective. Having found a fly that worked, it was soon evident that the trout were not reading from the same menu! and fly changing became the order of the day. Catching a fish under these conditions is always more rewarding than finding that one pattern is good for the day. We managed five trout with the best two at 1.75lbs. and 1.5lbs respectively. Another enjoyable day on this beat!
Just a note of interest, to those who have fished here before, and made comments about having difficulty with the combination lock; we happened to arrive just as the Farmer did, and he took some tome to open the lock. He said: "I do this twice a day every day, and it always takes some time, I can hardly see the numbers! His wife who was driving the pickup, was splitting her sides laughing at him. So you have to be a little patient with it!

Wonderful place, really beautiful. Casting is tough with the width of the river and the overhanging branches. Fish in evidence but nothing caught. It was a hot slow day so maybe it was that. Just nice to be in such a wonderful place

A wonderful first day for me on Caradoc, a beautiful place for a days fishing with good banks with fly and spinning water with the benefit of being able to drive your car along all of the bank when dry. fished the fly below the suspension bridge most of the day, lots of shad taking and bumping the fly to give some fun with the absence of any sign of salmon . Anglers beware of the wasp nest on the back of the toilet door by the hut, they certainly gave me a buzz when I opened it !! ( Ha Ha )

River still quite low despite recent rain but carrying just a hint of colour, weather warm and mostly sunny.
Fished the upstream beat in the morning, some flies of various types coming off, including yellow May Duns and later a few proper Mayflies made a welcome appearance. Lots and lots of rises immediately below the bridge but catching proved more difficult than I expected but trial and error with different flies soon had a couple in the net before I moved on up stream.
After this things slowed as the sun got very warm, but eventually I found a fish rising on the far side in flat water before the water broke into rapids, it took my fly then charged off downstream into the fast water, this was a very good fish but finally came off after my hook broke on the bend!...gutted.
The afternoon was spent on the lower half of the beat the fishing improved as the sun started to lose it's intensity and Mayflies started to appear, I took another five trout, missed some great takes and lost another big fish. All fish between 6-13in. taken on dries in great condition and all returned.

Good conditions in the morning. Fish to 1 1/2 pounds caught on drys and nymphs. Varied hatch. Cold downstream wind in the afternoon slowed things down somewhat. Contrary to many reports we found trout throughout the beat not just at the top end.

Pleasant day out on the Wye which started out with an upstream wind, which obviously didn't inconvenience me enough so it changed to a downstream wind later in the day. The weather was warm with occasional cloud, and sometimes the wind dropped enough for the odd fish to take off the surface.
I fished a heavy nymph under a an indicator and slowly made my way up stream, but only on the right bank. Which is very easy due to the path and occasional steps to the runs.
I saw a nice salmon in the pool below the house, I managed to get a good look before it spooked and shot off into the depths.
Overall a very relaxing beat, that is very well maintained and accessible, there are some more difficult runs and pools to get to for those of you want to risk a soaking though.
