Hi...I fished for four hours or so on the Usk reservoir, from 08:00 to 10:00 and returning at 17:00 until 19:00. I used a baited hook casting from the shoreline. No fish were caught. Many thanks.

River was well up on Sunday after all the rain on Saturday with a lot of rubbish coming down the river which made it near on impossible to fish plus it was brilliant sunshine, very warm so not ideal conditions. First day and could not get any where near the bottom swims as the river was well over the bank. Monday was a lot better with the river having dropped a foot. Still could not get to the bottom swims as the river was still over the bank and too dangerous but had a very good day in the other swims and looking forward to our next visit.

A bright clear day made a change from all the rain we had on Saturday. River still high but dropping back to its normal level by the day end. Because of the difficult wading conditions kept close to the bank and worked my way up stream. All fish came from Spring Pool Gutter on weighted beaded nymphs - Red tag/Pink bug. Lost two good fish but hooked into a very nice Grayling 14" on the Pink bug and after a short fight landed and carefully released. Had a few knocks but river still running too high, so I called it a day at about 5pm.

The river was just above 2' on the gauge and slowly dropping when I started fishing but although a satisfactory height for fly fishing, the water was full of silt even though the local streams were running clear. I gather that this is run off from the potato farms upstream - good top soil going to waste. Anyway I didn't have a touch although I did see a resident fish move once.
My wife on the other hand had a very successful day with her watercolour painting!

We arrived at wonderful Wyebank to find the river with reasonable colour and pace. With stunning scenery, blue sky and sunshine we knew we would be sharing the river with plenty of boat traffic but apart from a couple of guys who capsized (twice!!) everybody was in good spirits.
In the morning we caught some cracking Dace and a lively small Brown Trout but the float fishing switched off as the river started to rise rapidly. The water was considerably colder whilst wading and within a couple of hours boats were replaced by tree trunks and debris...
A switch to feeder found the Barbel on the move in the slacker water and we enjoyed some steady good fishing on this lovely beat once again.
