Three small trout on a black gnat. 2 larger fish hooked and lost in a deeper pool on a nymph.

3 Trout

Started fishing late morning (on a stretch I've fished several times before)...but struggled to find the fish - fished hard, and had one barbel early afternoon and then 3 in the last hour of light. All in the shallow water (just beyond the last salmon pool) between the ranunculous streamer weed. I fished 7 or 8 different swims over the course of the day - but it was tough fishing (I've been fishing all week on various stretches - only 2 were w&u waters, and had 34 barbel)
Did end with a 7lb 9oz right at last knockings though..and saw the back end of an otter when I arrived - let's hope that's not the reason the fishing has slowed.

4 Barbel, 1 Chub

Absolutely spectacularly beautiful place. Very hot and bright sunshine all day. Fish switched on in last two hours of daylight. Up to 8lb for the barbel. Chub miniscule.

One rod blanked (except for the tiny chub) but it was a joy to be in such a gorgeous place.

Arrived late and only had a couple of hours or so. River looked in great condition but struggled to get any takes today.

I fished this delightful beat between 4 and 6.30 pm. I fished dry, mainly Adams and Sedge, but the anticipated rise never really materialised. It was a lovely stretch of river however and I will certainly return.

This was my second visit to this beat. Unfortunately it didn't match the first time I fished here but I did manage to pull 3 good sized barbel out, all 3 about 7lb. I still enjoyed the fishing here and will be back again.

2 Trout

This beat always lives up to my expectation, I have fished several beat in Usk and this beat is one of the best in my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed fishing this beat although I only managed to fish half a day. The river was a bit low compared to my previous visit but it allowed me to wade and fish the other side of the bank which is where I caught most of the fish. I managed to catch 17 lovely brownies all between 12" to 20" on a home tied GRHE. The river is extremely slippery and I strongly advise using a wading staff. Looking forward to my next visit.

17 Trout

River was low and slow. There appeared to be black gnats on the water, so fished with a small one, but landed only one fish with it. Changed to an iron blue klink, and immediately had much more sucess

6 Trout

Third time on this lovely beat. Weather sunny and warm, river 1ft 6ins on the gauge and running clear. Fished full floating line, with 15lb leader and a Cascade. Took the fish at about 10.30am in the Bridge Pool standing on the rocks between the two sets of boards. Fish was c.12-13lb cock, and was quite coloured, good fight, no net so walked it into the bank and beached it there. Unhooked it and held it in the stream to recover; it swam off strongly. Also hooked and lost a fish in the Ferry Pool later in the day, caught two greedy trout which were also returned. Met a couple of fellow rods who were very helpful, had a good chat and learnt a bit more about the beat (local knowledge is gold dust!). All in all a very enjoyable day on superb beat.
