Caught 2 barbel, one was 9lb 7oz caught around 10:30am and the other 7lb 8oz caught at dusk. I also lost 2 at the end of the day. I'll be using more abrasive resistant 15lb mainline the next time I visit! Fish caught using pellet and boilies.

Tried this beat for the first time - good parking and easy walk to the river. Weather and river conditions looked good but fishing hard and no action until close to dark when I had two barbel and my friend had a chub. That's fishing for you, but we both enjoyed this beat and would try it again.

Area:Middle Wye
Beat:Whitney Court
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:1
River was low and in places quite sluggish for the fly. However, there were some nice pools to fish. It would have been useful to have more detailed notes of pools to fish and where these pools are. A nice day out on a new bit of water. Plenty of coloured fish showing and moving through the beat.

Area:Upper Wye
Beat:Abernant
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:1
Sadly no salmon caught, just a couple of trout returned safe, one a decent size. Eyes bigger than their bellies. Saw a large salmon jump in the Edw pool, the largest I have ever seen jump. Better luck next season.
Two canoeists spoilt the tail of the pool I was fishing, by allowing thier dogs to swim in the river. Must have been locals as they had 3 Labradors.

Only one chub at 2lbs. Unusually for a Sunday there were no canoes at all and only one angler on the opposite bank.

Beat:Caradoc

Fishing slow to start but picked up later, river low and clear, weather sunny. As for comments previously regarding the opposite bank, we saw very few anglers, so this did not cause us any problems (surprising as it was a Sunday!).

Decided to try a maggot approach via feeder and float instead of the usual pellet feeder. Fished all of the swims in this short beat and had fish in short feeding spells throughout the day. Two new species on the Wye for me after catching a decent Grayling and also a Gudgeon !!! Also had 4 small trout parr and a dozen or so Dace. Had 9 typical Wye Chub to 4.04 and a small Barbel. River dropping off with a little colour and some drifting weed in the morning
4 Trout, 1 Grayling, 1 Barbel, 9 Chub, 15 Other
