Fished the Mill Pool for 2hrs without a bite. Moved upstream to the deeper water and caught steadily until packing in at 4pm. Caught on pellet/feeder but by far the most successful bait was hemp & caster. This was my first time on Sugwas Court, plenty of swims to go at and good access. Thank you WUF.

As a 65yr old life long smoker the much debated "Hill" made me puff and sweat but it's not exactly the north face of the Eiger! Worth the effort, some good swims in the wooded
area. All fish to meat or pellet both seemed equally effective as did static or float fished presentation. Good quality chub, the best of which = 2 x 4lb 4oz. 1 x 4lb 6oz.
1 x 4lb 12oz. several in the 3-4lb. range.
Barbel = 5lb 2oz., 6lb 8oz., 7lb 8oz., 7lb 12oz., and undoubtedly the catch of the day, the most perfect 8oz. little barbel, rarely seen at this size but a wonderful thing to behold! Other = small eel.
Tidy beat, very pleasant surroundings, all in all a very
enjoyable days fishing.

Last trip of the year to the canyon, river was a light amber colour and flowing high and fast enough for wading to be hard work. What with the usual fallen tree obstacles my leg muscles were complaining this morning! As there were a small number of flies I persisted with paras., landing 3 at 9 to 11". A weighted nymph would probably have been more successful, but I enjoyed catching them at the surface. Hope there is enough water in the winter to clear some of the wood from the pools!!

Salmon appeared at 6.30pm. One lost to a spinner for my colleague initially and then a 15lb cock salmon to me on an orange and black tube as the pod of fish moved up through the pool on a small lift in the river level.
Hopes were high for Tuesday. The river had risen by 40 cm to 1 m on Chainbridge gauge over night. So we decided to clear the bank until the river fined down a bit, whereupon I disturbed a bees nest . 5 stings later to face and arm and a rapid feeling of being unwell, itching and hives appearing , I was sped to the A+E in Abergavenny. After antihistamines, a steroid drip and 6 hours of great care, I felt much better and begged for release. The river was perfect now. My friends fished for the last hour , again one lost to the spinner.
Unmeasurable thanks to those that saved this soul. I shall return !
