I decided to spend the morning going to have a look at the reservoir, at the head of the valley - about an hour's walk from the forestry car park. Worth the walk but got me tired. A bothy at the head of the reservoir but evidence here and elsewhere of unsympathetic patronage: bon fires/litter etc. How do they get up here? Not the types to walk?
Spent an hour and a half on the river beat pm, river low and clear. Too tired to do much. Wellies sufficed. Caught 2 lovely wbt on hare's ear nymph: 9" and 12" both safely returned. Lovely spot - how about the reservoir Wye and Usk?
WUF Note: We believe a private syndicate have recently taken the fishing on the reservoir.

Fished a variety of swims during the day for 1 barbel and 1 chub. Moved late afternoon and had a barbel and chub in successive casts as had my fishing partner. Nothing else until suddenly at 8pm it was one a chuck. Had 5 barbel and 3 chub in an hour. Packed up at 9 but they were still feeding. Partner had packed up at 8!! All but 1 barbel caught on sweetcorn. Will return to this stretch another time.

Water levels quite low and very clear, making it difficult not to be seen. Shame about the litter in the water from the caravan park.

The day was very good, the river was in very good conditions, we were fishing with all kind of nymphs, the best ones the natual ones pheasant nymphs very heavy in weight to reach the bottom of the river easily. It was a great day.

Beat:Wyebank
Fishing:Coarse
No. of Anglers:2
Back on the lovely Wyebank beat again and not the best day I've had there but certainly not the worst. All of the fish came to one rod and interestingly all of the fish were under 2-3lb which is a first for Wyebank considering there are some really monsters in there and the average barbel size is around the 6-7lb mark. We should have probably moved around more but as I was there with my mate it was more of a social vibe so we were happy just catching the odd fish and taking in the scenery. Will return soon!
