In the morning the water was high and very murky after heavy rain during the night. No fish seen. A campsite dog took a liking to me. There were multiple squirrels eating cob nuts and also a hornets nest in a tree next to the bank. After 2 hours of no fish I left. I returned in the evening the water was more fishable but the nearest I got to a fish was a rise to a klink otherwise nothing seen.

Very good day for barbel fishing. Water was coloured, and barbel was feedeing all day. It's not an easy stretch of the river (reports and avaibility), and after rain is hard to find a good swim.
Barbel liked pellets and boilies, meat didn't work - I tried Spam and pepperami. Chub appeared in the evening - I thought this venue is chub only, but it was 'very' barbel! There is a problem with snags - I lost at least ten hooks and few feeders, but that's Wye! :-)
Perfect stretch of the river and beautiful day! Thanks WUF!

Fished top part of beat two 3rds out with feeder and pellet. River coloured and possibly dropped slightly during my session - large 4oz feeder required to hold bottom. Slow start and worked hard for 11 barbel to 8lb 13oz. Very enjoyable day! Loads of beat still to explore and has bags of potential - will return again soon! Thanks WUF!!

Fished the Chapel House beat and caught a very coloured 7lb cock salmon . Caught on a Garry Evans single barbless FC The bait fell out of the fishes' mouth and resulted in the fastest return of a fish I have ever achieved. Shortly afterwards at about 6pm the river coloured up again and the window of opportunity had closed.

I arrived at the beat before 7 am in anticipation that the river level and conditions would be ideal to provide a chance to catch fish that should be running. Alas, the water level was a tad high and with still too much colour (all subjective of course!). Just after 7:30 am I did detect a run of fish moving through including a spanking fresh fish of some 15lb showing itself just above the neck of the Rock Pool. Spinning together with fly fishing using a sinking line (2/3) with a copper tube I covered the likely spots but to no avail. All I had was a couple of pulls from trout which I guess is an indication that the spinner was visible to the fish. It was unfortunate that I had to leave at lunchtime to attend to an issue that had arisen at home. Apart from the rain I had an enjoyable outing. I wish everyone fishing the Usk in the coming days tight lines as the water should have provided the opportunity to move run into and up many parts of the system.

Only my second visit to this delightful stretch of the Usk with light rain falling most of the day and more water coming down than on my previous visit. Several fish seen moving through and by mid afternoon the water had cleared and the flow had lessened slightly. A coloured fish of 6-7lb was hooked on a black/red- gold blade flying 'c' in Wood Stream pool but shed the hook before we could become better acquainted. Many thanks to Barry, the owner of the water, for his kind advice and guidance prior to my visits.
