Imagine my disappointment to find on arrival a rise going on at 0930 in the morning when I had imagined a quiet time simply sitting in the sun and enjoying a summer break. Catching them was another matter in gin clear and low water where the fish were moving constantly, as if in a lake! Is there a more beautiful valley than that of the Usk?

River still quite low despite seeing some rain over the previous days. Consequently no moving fish, just the odd resident jumping at the tail of the Vanstone.
Canoe traffic very heavy until late afternoon, like Oxford Street on Christmas Eve at times..
WUF might consider lowering their prices during the summer months given that large portions of the day can almost be written off, fishing wise, due to heavy canoe traffic?
WUF Note: Weekend prices are already cheaper than weekdays between 1st May to 15th September for many beats because Wye canoe traffic is at its peak during weekends in this period (£40 weekend compared to £47 weekday for Goodrich Court).

Warm overcast day, river low and clear but rose probably a couple of inches during the day. Fishing not like any other WUF beat. Managed the tricky path to the bottom pool. Arrived ridiculously early after a 2 hour drive, due to previous reports scaremongering about canoeists. Yes there were plenty but all courteous and had no noticeable effect on the fishing.
Had a 3lb chub first cast on ledgered meat and then switched to elips pellet with 50g black cap feeder filled with 4mm elips. Biggest chub was probably 4.5lb, barbel 4lb. Never seen, let alone caught, barbel as small as some of them - some even caught 'on the drop'. Probably only 8-9 of the fish were 'netters'. Lost countless (10-15) hook lengths (perhaps 5lb was too light?) on snag in mid-river.
Interesting day, good fun, but not sure would fish this beat again. Cormorant spotted 4 times along with mink strolling along the far bank.

Another good day of fishing, strong wind crossed with sun made for little surface activity. Water very low, clear despite being full and coloured the day before.
Lots of brownies, 4-5'' and some grayling, mostly on wet fly in fast corridors. Tried nymphing without much of luck, dry - the same...Biggest fish of the day grayling 12", brown trout 10".
NB. There is a new gate installed at second field, you need to go over as owner forgot to make it openable.

A poor day on the reservoir with only two caught on pop up and word was that there were no stock added that week - disappointing news if that was the case as there were quite a few anglers out. Water level very high making it difficult to get a spot due to overgrowth. Going to give it a miss for a week or so and see what feedback is before venturing back out.

Water levels were fine but gin clear. Tried a number of methods with the only fish being a 5lb Chub from Boys Rock Pool. Canoe traffic was very heavy.

First visit of the season. Long drive but arrived at 6am fishing by 6:45am just as it started raining! And it rained until 4pm. First time I'd fished Foy Bridge. Small beat with only a few swims. Once it stopped raining and with the benefit of polaroid sunglasses, it was clear that probably only 3 swims that were really fishable. Barbel didn't want to play but if you fished for chub I'm sure you could really bag up. Lost three decent Barbel to the snags (and some of the swims are really snaggy). Access and parking are easy and most of the few swims have steps down to the waters edge.
Not a great day and the weather was miserable even when it stopped raining, but as per normal can't wait to get back.
