First time we have fished this beat. Arrived just after 5am. Had heard about Boys Rocks but wanted to check out the rest of the beat first. Did a quick wonder down the beat but it soon became apparent it was way to weedy to fish the one or two swims down stream so headed back up stream for boys rocks. It's quite an awkward small swim that is tight for 2 anglers. And with vertical bush/trees behind, the casting is awkward. By 6am my son was fishing. For the next two and a half hours the fishing was exceptional. We found the fish across in the fast water. A powerful underarm catapult type cast to get across there is required.
Whilst helping helping him out and trying to set myself up he had 6 Barbel in quick succession all around the 8lb mark. I then finally got fishing and had three myself, 8lb, 8.5lb and 9lb. Followed by a couple of 4lb Chub. My son then lost two decent Barbel to snags, then I lost one to the snags.
Then the sun came out and so it would seem, all signs of fish life vanished from our swim. For the next 4 hours neither of us could muster a bite.
So at lunch time we ventured down stream. We went downstream right to the end of the beat in search of somewhere to fish. It is weed ridden down there. There is simply no where to fish. The cattle drink swim may be accessible with chest waders but we left them in the car as it was so hot.
We ventured back to boys rocks for about 3.30 for a final few hours. My son had a 7lb barbel second cast and I had a PB Chub of 5lb 10oz. An absolute belter that made my day.
After this it went dead again. We left at 6pm. Wanted to do the evening but both decided we were to tired to carry on after a 13 hour day. I guess we could have winkled out a few more in the evening.
River needs some rain. It is gin clear and low. Probably why it shut down when the sun came up. Still as always an enjoyable day on our favourite river.

First day of a full week on the Wye and first trip to this venue. Just an evening session due to travelling down today. We walked the full stretch and decided to fish the deeper water and share one swim between the two of us.
We started fishing at 6pm until dusk and caught steadily during the evening from the start. All fish caught on hair rigged large double elips pellets with 1.5oz feeders with groundbait and pellets.
The fish were of a good average size of around 7lbs. We weighed two, they were 8.2 and 8.4. All fought very hard.
A fantastic evening in great surroundings. Good access and nice to chat to the ghillie who was on the above stretch.
Peace and quiet, apart from the reel screaming.

River very low and clear. Strong downstream wind made presentation difficult. But there were rising fish. I persevered and was rewarded with 9 lovely Usk trout, all returned. Biggest 2lbs.

Started off trotting meat and had a ridiculous number of chub averaging 3-4lb, the biggest of which were easily over the 5lb mark. Switched to feeder tactics for the last few hours taking a few more large chub and several barbel. Had two fish that were pushing towards the 10lb mark. The others were all around 6-7lb. The bites kept coming and in the end we had to force ourselves to leave. Magnificent days fishing.

Very hot spell of weather and the stream was on its bones. I am not a great fisherman but managed to rise three trout to dry flies, but had them spat out. Found the access challenging as had to climb a few barbed wire fences. All in all a lovely few hours in a beautiful setting with red kites overhead all day. I will be back!

The river was very low, bright, with a downstream wind which made presentation very difficult. I had a few small fish on small cdc sedge pattern and a couple on nymphs. Spent a lot of time walking and had a sleep on the bank thought I would wait for the evening.
Around 6.00pm i saw the odd fish starting to rise on a big slow flat. The rises where sporadic and it was very difficult but managed one trout, a good fish around the pound mark. Walked back towards the car and noticed more fish rising in the lovely streamy pool next to where you park. The light was fading and I fished a sedge pattern and started connecting with some good fish, biggest around a pound and a half...
Very pleased. Worth waiting for the evening.
