Fished for two days at How Caple. River low and clear. Fishing was very slow, even the chub weren't playing ball. We managed three barbel. As always the river valley was beautiful and it was a pleasure just to be down on the river's edge. The fish were a bonus.

Fished from about 4.30 till 8 in the evening. Access wasn't great on the downstream half but the upper halves much nicer. Only fish was a nice 12 inch trout on a mayfly just down from the bridge at the end of the beat, returned.

Good day generally weatherwise, gusty downriver river wind, annoying but bearable. Plenty of flies coming off but very few rises so not much opportunity to fish the dry. All fish taken on small black CDC nymph, long nymphing which always works well here especially when the levels are quite low. No fish greater than a 1lb taken from various parts of the river. A great day and can“t wait to come back to one of my favourite beats!

Lots of fish showing through the day, which was bright and sunny. Hooked and lost a fish at 8pm on the fly.
At Seven Sisters the day before we had shad on the fly and on spinner. Again, lots of fish showing but none caught in the bright and sunny conditions.

After an early start set up in my favourite swim in the woods and after a slow start to the day I continued with persistent baiting of hemp, pellets, groundbait etc which paid off! Although believe it or not had to work hard for bites! Managed 8 barbel in total 5 of them being over 9lb...! Biggest fish of the day went 9lb 8oz and smallest went 8lb. All fish caught on hair rigged hooker pellets wrapped with paste. Always enjoy a return to the Coutfield as it is a beautiful place to be and has some cracking barbel fishing to offer.
Will be back later in the year after the doubles for sure!

I fished from 10.30am to 6pm, not the best hours I know, and sure enough there was not much rising but later in the afternoon a few mayflies started to come off and the trout were happy to take these where they found them. I had trout of about 10 inches on a dry olive (everyone else - make sure you have the right colour mayflies with you!) and had a couple of good tugs on a downstream pheasant tail, both missed. It would have been nice to wait around and see if there was an evening rise, but maybe next time. A nice part of the world and an easy to fish beat, I'll be back.

Started fishing at 5am and was in to fish almost straight away. I caught steadily until packing in at 3pm
it did slow a bit once the canoes arrived but not too much. Fished both feeder/pellet and trotted a float. The feeder was the most productive but catching on the float is much more enjoyable. It was great to be back on moving water doing proper fishing. Many thanks to Don and the WUF.
