Fishing:Trout (River)

8 x trout 6-8 inches, plus several largish salmon parr showing signs of smolting up, on a Goldbead Hare's Ear. A warmish 12 degrees today, but the gale hasn't yet blown itself out. Large dark olives were in evidence and a few trout did rise, but I got on better with the nymph.

A fun day on the Wye and the first time on this beat. It is evident that there has been a lot of work done on the beat. The water was on the high side but it was still possible to wade a lot of the pools. Wading was relatively easy. We saw a fish in The Gabions from the right bank just out from the rock croy on the right bank. Again fishing from the right bank a fish came to a Cascade in The Windmill with a sInk tip line. Another fish came to a Red Flying C in the same pool. Just upstream of the Small shed on the right bank. A great fun day in difficult conditions as it was a rising river and very windy. I will fish this beat again. I can see there being a lot of potential with this beat. Especially, if the bank maintenance continues as it has been. The Ghillie has been hard at work and I think I would use this service in future.

Could not have been a worse day to fish wind was positively gale force and made casting impossible so I didn't even try. Looks like a lovely bit of water I will come back and try on a more generous day.

Fished a 2" Black&Yellow tube on a 15ft 7ips tip and really enjoyed the beat. Didn't have a take nor see a fish, but gained much-needed casting practice in great surroundings.

Beat:Wye at Aramstone
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:1
1 x hen salmon 37 inches on Crawford Little's Abacus tube fly fished off a fast sink tip. I guess Crawford was right; you CAN count on it. A dark day of low clouds and intermittent rain with a gale blowing upstream. There was a slight rise in level this morning, dropping off again. Another fish or a kelt lost earlier on.

Lovely beat but I was let down by the weather as it was far too windy for my casting abilities! Managed to get blown off of my intended trajectory and was surprised that I didn't lose more flies in the trees!
Access from the car park is easy - but there is a lot of barbed wire about. Fished up from here. Persevered for a few hours and had one hook up but lost it. Doh!
Didn't see another fish, or any rises - but I will be back to try another day.
Note that the road is closed for repairs from Kington to this beat's car park.
Booking system is great - many thanks for making it easy!
