A great days fishing on a beautiful beat. I took my Brother in law (American) fishing for Barbel as I promised him over a few too many beers at Christmas!
I set him up and even before my bait hit the water he was into his first ever barbel, a lovely fish of about 7lb. I was made up for him. He was thrilled.
Long story cut short he ended the day with 2 barbel and a chub while I settled for a beautiful 12lb barbel (my second best) and an 8lb barbel.
Wind picked up late in the afternoon so we up sticks early to head off. A great day - thanks to WUF!

Fly fishing - a few fish moving but didn't hook anything.
River rose very quickly on Friday with cold water, not great conditions. Nice part of the world.
Catch records suggest a better chance with a spinner.

Three Grayling to 17" and a nice trout to 15" were the picks of the day. Heavy nymphs in morning then klink & dink around midday and a few on the dries prospecting in the afternoon. Beat in fantastic condition as usual. Love this fishery. Thank you.

I am pleased to report that this is probably the best beat I have fished on the Passport scheme. Access is good, though the short part below the footbridge is a bit overgrown. A very nice river, though on the day I was there there did not seem to be much fly life about. I hooked 3 on the dry fly, lost one, broken by one and landed a nice little trout about 8". A nice day on a pleasant river.

Too windy on the majority of the lake for fly. Found a sheltered spot at the end of the day for a 1.5lb rainbow caught on a large olive with gold head.

Mild weather to start but with a cooler downstream breeze later.
Very little in the way of fly life about and consequently most of the fish were deep down, hiding in the stones. Managed to tempt a few fish from the lower half of the beat before the breeze picked up and made presentation difficult.
4 trout between 5 and 8 inches. 4 salmon parr.

After the brief flood water dropping fast but good colour, well coloured 10lbs cock at Glangwye on fly returned and 3/4 lb trout fancied the salmon fly too. 3 cormorants also flying around!

Took a trout fishing mate with me today, he was keen to experience the pull of a barbel. We got there around mid day, over cast and a little blowy, water up a foot and running dirty but clearing steadily. Set up on the far bank I fished the pellet and my mate, the spam both on the lead. I fished 15m upstream of him with the open ended feeder full of ground halibut, 8mm trout pellets and giant hemp, hoping this would draw the fish up and to where his spam would be on offer....this took about 2 minutes before his rod's bait runner screamed off. 7lbs of fit clean barbel netted and a real happy angler. One good eel fell to the spam and 5 barbel of similar size to the pellet. Fish came at hourly intervals. Oddly it died around 6pm, no other bites ensued and we left at 8pm. No chub at all? Good afternoons angling at a nice venue.
