Was hoping to get a friend his first Barbel, but the low river conditions made for a difficult day. He did manage 3 Chub to about 4lb though and I had two Barbel at around 4lb and 7lb 15oz. The place seemed to come alive just as it was time to pack up, with loads of fish coming up for a fly hatch.

Fished from the bay and from the boat slipway (too windy), took 9yr old for first fishing trip, landed 3 trout of about 1lb on worm with pop-up, he was well chuffed. also 2 perch but not the 12oz monsters of other reports, these were mini-perch of six inches. quite a few fishing on a cold, occasionally windy and wet day. I guess £19.50 for 5 fish and only 3 trout is quite expensive but it was worth it to see the look on his face when he landed the first one.

Low water, bright sunshine, too many people swimming due to hot weather. Unable to find a quiet spot, will try again later in season.

Arrived in the afternoon intending to stay for the evening rise, parking at the bridge. After finding that I'd left the upper beat map 180 odd miles away I made a quick recce of the lower section. On the way back to the car a couple of families with young kids came hurtling down the hill from above the sewerage station mid beat and on returning to the car a mini bus arrived and fifteen others got out and made for the river! I drove to the lowest access point to confine my fishing to a quarter of the beat. And guess who was there when I entered the water?! A gang of Goosanders, only my collective noun for them but I think it suited these guys! Six of the buggers! They seemed to be stalking a minks "nest" like a bunch of teen yobs out side a rivals house! Most strange? With hot sun and low water, a shortened beat and this competition, I consider myself fortunate to post a catch of one eight inch brownie via olive emerger.
WUF note - Please contact the Foundation on the day of fishing should incidents like this occur. We can then contact the owner and deal with the problem very quickly and get it rectified.

Started fishing at 6.30pm - last fished this beat after WUF Volunteer clearance work a few years ago - now much overgrown again. Water low, bright day with a few clouds. Worked my way up beat through various pools and drifts with only a few signs of fish present - very dark under canopy. Arrived at top of beat relieved to find small pool below bridge where a few evening Olives were hatching with a number of fish rising to these. Had a number of takes on an Olive Para and switch to small Lunns - particularly as light faded - brought a couple of very nice 9" brownies to hand and safely released before light faded. The Farmer came by for a brief chat - nice chap.
Can recommend the fish and chips from the Stables Fish Shop in the village - nicely washed down with a pint of Otter from the Dog. A very nice evening, but conditions not ideal for the main beat.

I had 5 chub to around 4lbs they were all covered in argulus fish lice. Only fished to around lunch time. There was a lot of fish activity where they were crashing around as if trying to rid themselves of the fish lice but not feeding as well as one would have hoped.
The next day we were on the Lower Carrot and Luggsmouth Passport beat, where again there was a lot of fish activity, mainly barbel splashing about as if trying to rid themselves of fish lice.
With the very low water levels it seemed strange that there was a large agricultural water abstraction unit working at the point where the Lugg joins the Wye all the time we were there.
Thanks

Heavy Showers and river carrying extra water. 9 WBT to 19" also had a 16" fish. Two lovely big brown trout! Also fell in, not recommended but who cares when you have just caught two big wild brown trout.

River at bare bones level, at least I could check out the make up of the deep pools for future use. Trout very wary, caught 7 up to 7" from the now short faster streams. All on small paras.

River low, only fished the top part of the beat from about 7:45pm to 10pm. Managed to catch two fish on small sedges, fished mostly dry. Had two other takes. There were only a few fish rising. Good session overall.
