1x 12 oz., 2x 8oz., 5x 4/6 oz., all fish returned. All on dry mayfly, barb rubbed off so almost barbless. Many rises.
Tricky river to fish especially when full water.

This is a stunning location and very peaceful. Sadly no fish but lovely to be there. Lots of bedrock and no fish showing. I fished a wet fly but I suspect that a weighted nymph may be necessary.

The river was overflowing and brown due to heavy rains.
Four trout caught with nymphs.
Place is nice with good access on the woods side but could not see how to access the pools on the other bank downriver (the Barn and the Oak). There was a locked gate at the side of the bridge with no obvious access,
The owner, Bari, was very helpful in contacting us beforehand and recommending the places to fish in the poor river conditions.

River quite high and coloured. Our first visit to the beat. We found the beat details lacking, no pool names on the map and few marked `getting in` places; however the water looked promising despite the colour. We caught eleven trout including one of 1.5lbs, and two of 1.25lbs. The rest were between 0.75lbs and 1lb. We lost at least as many fish as we caught. 50/50 dry fly and nymph. Altogether an enjoyable day's sport.

Unfortunately this was a pointless exercise, the river looked more like a carp pond due to recent flooding, very swollen and absolutely no visibility. There was plenty of fly life, some mays, etc in so many respects it could have been perfect on what is a really lovely beat. I tackled up all the same just for the hell of it. Still, had a very comfortable night at the Bell Inn but it was very disappointing to get these conditions on what is generally only an annual trip to this area.

An hour's fishing in the evening - booked in the expectation of a warm summer's evening... well it only rained for half the time and the river had just about fined down to be fishable. 4 good sized fish in 5 mins from the top to a size 16 bead head PTN around 8pm. Lots of flies around the bank / field. On the right day, this must offer cracking sport.
(On a separate note, there seemed to be a lot of an invasive plant (the reddish stemmed one) along the length of the beat and creeping into the corn field).

With Pontsticill reservoir over flowing now is the time to fish our upper Taff beats. The Taf Fechan fishes well on downstream wets when the reservoir is over flowing. Use small flies 16 or below.
