Fishing:All Species (in season)

Water a good height (12" on Brecon gauge), warmish day. Reasonable amount of fly life about - olives, LDO's,sedge and some sherry spinners later in the day.
Surprised, given the conditions, very little rising. Two decent 12" wbt caught (emerger pattern) and released.
Unauthorised angler (poacher to you and me) dropped in with his spinning rod on the lower part of the beat. Was despatched by one of the anglers and beat owner, David, who over a glass of wine shared some useful knowledge about the beat and area which has been tucked away for future trips.

Took two rainbow of about 2lbs each hard fighting and quite silvery in colour on damsel. Switched to dry and caught 6 perch, but no more rainbow. Lake went quiet from 2 p.m A hot day, no cloud. Stayed self catering at Llangwynidr, excellent. Also had a private day on 14th on a beat below Crickhowell bridge. Very few rising fish, but had a brown of 1lb on a hawthorn.

Beat:Lower Grywne Fawr
Fishing:Trout (River)

Beautiful day in wonderful surroundings. Access is easy throughout. One fish taken, 14 inches, fell to a deep sunk gold headed Pheasant Tail nymph. A few fish were rising but ignoring the odd mayfly. I missed two fish who came to a black Klink, then I discovered that the hook had been straightened when attached to branch just behind me. Note to self: Must remember to check the fly after it has been snagged.

Had a couple of free hours and having helped clear some of this beat thought I would return and see how it looked.
Parked at the lowest parking and fished short section between the bridges.
Water in lovely condition, plenty of Olives and Mayfly. Persisted with dry fly but despite the fly life did not see a single rise in three hours fishing.
Highlight was an otter working the bank side shallows with such enthusiasm that he/she failed to spot me until literally swam into wading boots. Stood up in the shallow water, looked at me - swam across my feet and a couple of yards downstream turned round and stood up again to have another look.
Brazen and unconcerned and possibly partially responsible for the lack of fish.

Beat:Ashford House
Fishing:Trout (River)

The water was lovely, with runs and pools as described in the Foundation's booklet, but the access to the water was difficult in most places due to trees and high banks. Not the easiest of beats for anglers in their seventies with stiff knees.
Having said that, the fishing was wonderful with plenty of rising fish in the deeper water at the bottom of the beat, which responded well to a Dog's Body. We could fish in comfort sitting on the bank. We kept the best two (a pound and a quarter and a pound) for supper and the 5 we put back were all about three=quarters of a pound.

Area:Loughor
Beat:Pontarddulais AA Loughor
Fishing:Sea Trout

Blank. Fishing till midnight after a committee meeting. It's early yet, and the Loughor is not an early river, but I couldn't resist the temptation of a moonlit night. Some don't like fishing in a moon, but a full moon means a high tide and this little river has enough kinks in it to shade some of the pools. I caught nothing but a brownie, nor did I see or hear anything, but a member took a 7 pounder spinning high water earlier in the week.
