Very hard day with the fish seemingly grouped together in one paticular section of water which we couldn't get to from our bank.
JB blanked and RG caught a few minnows and chublets on the float but nothing of any size. Weather was bright and sunny and a nice piece of river with an easy stroll across the level field to the river bank.

Mist turning into very warm day. Plenty of natural fly. I saw a few salmon on the move, but no trout, though other fisherman did. I found the bank below the bridge difficult, though recent work has been done on it.

River was 0.4m on the gauge. A couple of salmon showed but I think they were long term residents. Was fly fishing all day. Lovely spot to have a day's fishing and not disappointed to blank considering the conditions. Will look forward to returning.

River too low, very good day though. This was our first visit to the Whitney Court fishery and we struggled to identify the beats adequately. No salmon were observed the whole day, however small trout were in abundance and produced some sport.

Very difficult fishing compared to recent visits to Home Beat. No joy in prolific swims such as Swan Crib and Island Pool, so fished the cattle drink opposite the Legg Crib on the Courtfield bank. I took four barbel from this swim between 6-8lbs 6oz in the afternoon. Will fish Courtfield on next visit to explore this section of river more as access to banks is not so limited. 3 salmon seen in Ferry Pool around 7:00pm, all doubles.

This was supposed to be a salmon day, but the water is really quite low again now. I worked away all morning, searching various holes and gutters with sinking lines etc, but without success. Mid-afternoon, I saw sense and got out the grayling rod and fished dry fly for a while on one of the pool tails. 14 x grayling, mostly nice fish around 14 inches and 1 x trout of 10 inches, on a small Red Tag.
Incidentally, I should report a 14 pound salmon caught on this beat by Brian Skinner on the 20th. That puts us at 4 for the season.

The river was very low and clear and the weather sunny and bright.
I booked Tim Lennon for the day as my guide. He showed me his methods, which I hadn't used before and within half an hour I had my first barbel. We used pva bags with 6&8mm pellets in the bag and 8mm pellet on the hook. We ended up with 10 barbel and 1 chub.
Had a really great day and would like to thank Tim whom I learnt a lot from and the wye and usk foundation.
