Water very low and crystal clear. Mostly bright sunlight. Banks VERY heavily overgrown. Fished upstream wet fly. Frightened one 4" trout with size 14 Peter Ross. Saw nothing else but there were 2 herons and a kingfisher there!

My mate had never caught a barbel before so when I saw a low clear river I feared the worst, especially with bright sunshine. When, after a change of swims he landed his first barbel of just under 7lb we were both very happy. Thanks as always to the Foundation.

River levels still very low and clear making the fishing difficult. Not a touch all day. I walked the beat 4 times and with the sun out could see most of the river bed but did not spot a single fish. But as the sun went down the fish came out from the tree cover. 4 x barbel, biggest 9lbs 15 oz, all caught in the last hour before darkness.

River very low, clear & bright sunny conditions, fishing very difficult. Maggots caught small chub and trout and an eel fell to pellet.
First time on stretch and pleased with the variation of swims but no sign of barbel.

My last day of the trout season ended as it began - in failure! I caught 5 small trout, all returned, but haven't had a sniff at a bigger fish all season. Later in the day 5 other fishermen turned up on the same stretch as me, from the town bridge down. Even though there were no other bookings mentioned, fishing on this stretch seems not exclusive.

WUF note - It is mentioned in the Passport that this section of water has unlimited rods and up to 10 rods are bookable online as it is part of a Clubs waters.

Very hard going and only 2 chub and 3 barbel between 3 of us. Tried a variety of swims and methods but the fish were not having any of it.

We arrived to find the river very low and clear and with unseasonably warm conditions and knew it was going to be tough!
Saturday proved the best day with some cloud cover. Meagre pickings in the morning and day but a feeding frenzy ensued as the light dwindled.
We finished with 18 barbel and 11 chub, which was pretty damn good given the conditions.
Most fish were taken from the field swim above the parking on a mixture of pellets and boillies or a combo of the two. The best anglers of our group managed to catch in bright daylight and only the very best from the lower reaches of the beat where real class was needed to extract fish from between the trees.
All of the troup lost big fish (some through poor reel management) and some managed to catch on another's rod which was fine the first time around but when it happened again the rod had to be wrestled from a reluctant angler who was hell bent on poaching and glory-justice prevailed!
Great weekend had by all.
Biggest fish, 8lb 5oz - good arrows!
Thanks again to the Foundation, we will return!
