First time at Middle Hill Court, and a very enjoyable afternoon in beautiful surroundings it was! Fished from 3.30 til 9.30pm, starting at the very top of the beat, and began catching straight away with all falling to paste-wrapped pellet (for once the mighty meat did not do the business as predicted by G.S)...had the place to ourselves, so working our way down slowly, ended the day with 8 barbel to 8 1/2lbs, (avg 5-6lbs) with several lost along the way on barbless hooks - including one crafty chub who did a great job of outwitting a certain chub expert ;) had such a good time i don't think we even made it half way down the beat, canoe traffic was next to none, bailiff Adam very friendly and helpful, and highlight of the day was seeing a huge salmon clear the water right in front of us in the Vanstone pool - looked to be a hefty double. Great fun was had by all! Thanks WUF.

Beat:Cefn Rhosan Fawr

Fishing:Trout (River)

First time fishing this beat and I was not disappointed. 5 B.Trout to 12" and about half dozen small feisty Salmon parr. The water level was good and the clarity in the faster water was excellent, but the deeper slower glides were a bit cloudy. The best method was fishing ptn and spider "waterhen boa" duo down and across in areas where this was possible. Later in the day dry fly was effective "tan klink" to fish rising now and then. Plenty of fly life, caddis, upwings and big yellow sally mayfly. encountered quite a few goosanders.
On a whole a fantastic day and I will be back thank you WUF.

Great location fished mainly the cottage beat. Parked at the bottom of the hill of doom! Not for the faint hearted on foot! Slow start main bulk of barbel and chub coming late afternoon to small hair rigged pellet. Not huge fish but great condition. The river keeper very helpfull. Would like to have explored the top island beats a little more, but a lot to go at for one day! Several huge salmon seen crashing around the lower beats!

Beat:Penpont

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:2

Fished from 09.00 - 18.00. The river level was high but falling and coloured.
20 fish caught mainly on nymphs with a size 16 quill nymph fished duo style catching most. Fish landed up to 1lb. Two big fish lost, both unseen (one, to my shame, was a snap).
A very good day on a lovely bit of water.

An excellent and entertaining morning and early afternoon on the Arrow. I concentrated on the upper section of the beat. Three wild browns to the net and returned - all of 8”-10”. A further two shook themselves off. I was using a 5’ rod and fishing a weighted Pheasant Tail nymph size 14.

The directions to fish frome the A40 bank were very poor the correct lay bye was hard to find so we gave up so and fished from the Ross bank. The bank was very steep and the water very hard to access and really this beat has is only for the fit and agile angler. However once in the river the fishing was good and the river looked and felt right. I tried a fly for the morning with no success. At lunch time was sat on the bank in amongst the bushes and saw a decent fish rise in the pylon pool, cast at it with a red flying c and it took first cas. This fish was a superb 18 pound bar of silver that fought for 20 mins before being safley landed. Fatastic fun. At 3pm the same flying c accounted for another 10lbs fish in the same pool. Despite the awkward access to the water throughout, what an amazing day out. Thanks very much to the Wye and Usk Foundation.

Both rods fished below the orchard and caught 5 barbel between 5 and 8 pounds, 3 chub, two of 4 pounds and one of 3 pounds, and one trout of approx 1 pound. The barbel, one chub & trout were caught on luncheon meat, and the other two chub on sweetcorn. All fish were in very good condition as was the river.

Area:Lower Wye

Beat:Wyastone Leys

Fishing:Coarse

No. of Anglers:2

Fished about two thirds of the way down the beat and found access to the waters edge quite difficult except from a couple of places due to the high banks. River fairly low and we didn't have a single bite until the evening when we caught one 5lb 2oz barbel on luncheon meat.
