Fished Tuesday 16th & Wednesday 17th September.
Tuesday - S.W opted to fish the maggot and Hemp by the gallon. The result was a bite a cast, all under 1/2lb, mostly chub but also minnows, bleak, dace, roach, perch & brown trout, all on feeder with 10lb hook link!!! No barbell so a bad tactical decision but worth a shot. In cooling temperatures it has worked well on the Severn before.
D.S opted for boilie, pellet & pellet ground bait combination and moved swims in response to local knowledge to bag 14 good chub to 5lb and a last gasp 7lb plus barbel
having lost two good barbel earlier in the day in the top of stretch swims.
Wednesday - the previous days rain impacted on the stretch seeing over 2 feet of cold dirty flood water hit the river at about 10am. D.S had a 5lb chub and 7lb barbel in first two casts but that was last of action until last thing when he managed two more barbel in flood conditions.
S.W. lost one Barbel on meat, but there was no other activity other than bleak, dace & chub on float.
All in all a challenging two days, but as always on the Wye a pleasure to be there!!

Stunning location, fish taken on dry and nymph. Enjoyable day fishing even though it rained continually.

Another good day on the Wye. One of the chub had a deformed upper lip, in that most of it was missing, very odd to look at. All of the fish were caught on a feeder and pellet method, river very low despite it raining most of the day. Thank you WUF for making the fishing possible, keep up the good work.

Salmon of around 15lb took a boilie on the retrieve but broke the hooklength after a few minutes of fun. Lots of chub but barbel still not feeding in earnest.

River very low with lots of weed, fish not feeding all day up to 6-30pm so no catches. Method used was a simple open-end feeder, approx two foot hook link, with either 8 or 14mm pellet on the hook. I also fed smaller pellets into the swims. Thank you.

7 x trout 6-12 inches on small Rusty Klinkhammer, one on a Goldhead Hare's Ear. This morning was a matter of finding somewhere which wasn't coloured - the Wye was and so was the Irfon. Ended up on the Edw and fished the upper part. The average size of fish on the beat seems to have gone up a bit since I last fished here, but we are going to have to do some trimming this winter I can see. Otherwise, there was a rainbow over the Edw valley for much of the morning, but it was more storm than sunshine and quite cold. Dark olives were hatching already by lunchtime.

Very gravid large cock springer around 20lbs. Would have been considerably more when he came into the river.

After the promise of much needed rain from the Met Office arrived to find the the river still showing its bones 0.42 on the gauge and crystal clear.
Met fellow blog brother (L.T. from Creigiau) for the first time and as anticipated enjoyed a lovely day in his company.
Swished in vain with the 15ft on upper beat then left L.T. casting for trout rising to a reasonable hatch of Ephemera.
Arrived at newly manicured lower beat and found it much more accessable. Saw a fish chase and take my Rollo Silver Bullet (copper blade) just above the cables and landed a 6lb red cock fish - safely returned.
Entered the water under Oaks with all the delicacy of a sheep falling in. Even the resulting tsunami didn't put off a similarly red 7lb cock fish which took first cast - again safely returned. More salmon madness. Two in 15 minutes-another great day!
