Had a great day, river was up a bit but thinning down. Ended up with 9 Barbel, biggest 8lbs 9oz and 2 chub with a suprise 12lbs 4oz Bream that fought like a Barbel. All caught on pellet and paste.
Access to this fishery is good in my view despite what others say and Road noise is really not a problem, more of a distant hum. Can't understand how people mention the public walkers either, had no more than 6 peple pass me all day and the weather was hot and sunny (Saturday). Steps are steep but easy managable. Its 300 foot steps (yes I counted) from the car to my chosed swim which was about 4 down from the rock so again can't understand the complaints there either. There is over a mile of water to the bottom of the beat but with so many fishy places before then, I had no need to walk that far. River was up a bit but swims have great access with wooden steps. Really cant fault it.
I will be back.

4 barbel and a 5lbs 3oz chub, subsequently caught again on 23.7.12. Total confusion on map access paths around fields with the farmer variously concerned with cattle in that one, crops in that one, all to change with the seasons. Renting the farm from the council all he gets from anglers is the grief, not the money. This needs to be effectively sorted as the walk down track is long rough and v muddy in the wet, and then there's the fields to trek through. I know WUF visited to sort this out, lets hope we get access down to the riverbank, as the locals do this anyway, to paddle in the gravels on very pretty stretch.

The river was in perfect condition, I was only able to fish in the afternoon and caught a chub approx 3lb on pellet.
This stretch of river has lots of potential and I would like to come back and fish it again, this time early morning or late evening.

Area:Reservoirs

Beat:Usk Reservoir

Fishing:All Species (in season)

No. of Anglers:1

Clear warm sunny day with mirror surface. One 1.5lbs rainbow on spinner on NE shore and a 2lbs rainbow on fly at the far west corner. West end needs some work to aid casting. Litter still a problem and looking at it, it is caused by fishermen. Why???

Fishing:Trout (River)

2 x trout 6/7 inches on small Klinkhammer. Tough going in fast and high water, though quite clear now. The Monnow lower down is still very murky, for which we can probably blame all those arable fields in the valley of the Dore tributary.

Looked good but fish not feeding as expected. Managed 13 Barbel between us up to 9lbs 4ozs all on elipse. Very high banks to the water so needed dog spikes for safety.

Fishing:Salmon

Water level was still high (2ft 6ins) in early evening. Water seems to have warmed up during the last week. Nothing seen or forthcoming from Bridge Pool. Fish took on 1 inch shrimp type tube at the top of Gravel Catch and not far from the bank. An extremely gentle take turned into a very exciting 20 minutes. 18-20lb cock fish pretty silver (no red), returned in great shape. Fished down again but nothing doing. Great evening

Nil return. The best prospect in the high water, gravel
catch, may have been hampered by the persistent presence
of an otter!
