Fished the lower end from the 2nd parking spot, what a stunning stretch of river!
They say the Usk fishes best in the spring though I could probably have done better without my reel going in to center-pin mode! Never the less, an enjoyable few hours on the river. One wbt 8ins another lost at hand. Thanks always WUF.

A great weekend fishing at Sugwass. Very hot on Saturday, caught a couple early in the day then struggled in the heat until late afternoon/evening when we had 3 barbel and a few chub. Sunday complete contrast weather wise, pouring rain all day. Again caught few fish early but packed up at 2 due to the river rising and no bites forthcoming. Great stretch of river. Only couple of issues, one being canoeists, including one who got tangled up in the line after ignoring our shouts, also the floating weed coming down catching on the line was a bit of a problem. All in all a great weekend though.

2 rods leggered worm, caught 6 trout and 3 perch between us. (OK - he caught 5 and I caught 1, but then that's what fathers are for - i.e. to show sons how it's done). Great days fishing, paperwork checked by friendly, informative wardens who gave advice to novice trout anglers.

This part of my report got lost in the ether!
Last visit to Lyepole was on a scorching day yet we had an excellent days fishing. Today, overcast and cooler and with a strong downstream wind. River still very low.
Saw 1 rise all day, caught a single wbt of +8ins on a Copper John and lost another in the same pool and that was it.
Saw otters (or the same otter) 3 times. First time in the deep (not at the moment) pool on the bend at the bottom of the beat. Made both of us jump out of our skins. 20 mins later I suspect same otter appeared about 50 yards upstream of me in a very shallow section. Stayed there for a good 1/2 hour turning stones as he/she splashed way upstream. Finally needed to get past the furry poacher - who has same level of success as I had in that stretch - zero, so he scooted off again.
Later had a long string on bubbles move through another pool I was fishing in - so suspect my friend was back again.
Gave up at lunchtime as heavy showers started. Wye tributaries now getting desperate for some water.
