Beat:Usk Reservoir

Fishing:All Species (in season)

No. of Anglers:1

Drove up in thick fog. Reservoir in thick cloud with light breeze. Fished NE shore. One 2LB rainbow on cats whisker. Weather improved to clearing skies and bright sun, no breeze and mirror surface. No takes. Caught one further 2lb rainbow on spinner with a 12oz toby. Another enjoyable day at a superb location. Once more pity about the litter on the banks, area deserves more respect.

Unfortunately the Usk was in flood so we could not fish at Penpont so nil return. We were there for 3 days and was unable to fish our beats due to the bad weather.

Dare I say,"too much rain"? Water quite high and no fishing attempted. Did notice large numbers of canoeist searching for "safe" water as Wye was out of the question....None actualy in the water though.

Area:Irfon

Beat:The Upper Irfon

Fishing:Trout (River)

No. of Anglers:1

A week of rain ended on the Friday about noon, prayers answered and the water was down a foot by next morning. Still pushing through at quite a pace but I was going to give it a go. Only 15-20% of beat was fishable due to rate of flow making wading tricky in a lot of places but it still took FIVE HOURS to get to the top and that was only from the Church/bridge......3 fish of 8" on a 'Bloody butcher' of all things, size 14, when practicing across-and-down on a sink tip in preparation for a weeks sea trout fishing later in the year!
Not a huge catch but if this beat held the average head of fish for it's size, and it will one day soon we hope, you couldn't fish it all in one day! Well worth the 4 vouchers just for the views and wildlife...Beware, the sheep in this valley will SWIM the river to say hello!!
