Blanked. Hot sunny day, gin clear water. Fished from 0930 till 1600, despite a profusion of fly life (yellow mays, mayflies, olives in a range of sizes and a lot of hawthorns) I only found three rising fish, spooked two and hooked one for it to come off shortly after. Tried prospecting with a dry, the duo and upstream nymphing with a variety of weighted patterns to no avail. Did see a couple of cormorants that might have spooked the fish.

Stunning wild stretches of water with heavily wooded banks and waterfalls. Bluebells and flowers blooming and perhaps one of the most beautiful bucolic settings I have had the pleasure of seeing olives out in force, fooled some on an adams which they seemed to prefer to my olive patterns. 7 trout caught, 3 on dries and 4 on nymphs, best fish was probably over 2lbs and 5 of the 7 were better than a pound.

Excellent system which was new to us. Dai, thanks for help and Advice.
Went out with excellent Guide Chris Price to discover the secrets of Welsh River Fishing. Thank you. Dries and Nymph under dry fly "indicator".
Three lovely fish but the very bright sun in the afternoon effected a retirement to the the pub.

Couple of hours in the evening on the upper section of the beat. Fish rising in all the pools, although not much in the way of olives hatching. Swarms of midge, or possibly caenis about, so suspect this is what the trout were feeding on. One 10" WBT to hand and a number of missed solid takes.
Confronted by the farmer on the true left bank just below the Bridge Inn,indicating that the river was private property and that he had no agreement with anyone allowing fishing. I tried to explain that I was fishing under WUF permit, and had no knowledge that any of the beat had restricted water. To my knowledge it was double all the way between the Lower Escley bridge at Sunny Farm and the Bridge.
Anyway, I promptly stopped fishing and retired to the campsite at Bridge Inn somewhat irritated/disgruntled. Would appreciate it if someone could follow this up.

A frustrating day: double digit missed takes on the dry, inordinate tangles, leaky waders... It had all seemed so promising at the beginning - this has always been a productive beat before - but maybe the trout were so shell-shocked by the rare seasonal weather they were following the lead of the locals on the far bank by the canal, and sun-bathing too! Fish caught up to 1/2 lb on upstream nymph and klinkhammer.

A beautiful day with plenty of sun and light winds. Water was clear and low with wading fairly straightforward for the most part.
Fished from 11am - 7pm. A reasonable trickle of fly life carried on all day but perhaps it was too bright for most of the trout? Grayling were certainly active and sipping on the surface. We had eight between us, the smallest at 6 inches (on a size 12 sedge) and the largest at 15 inches (on a size 20 cdc olive). This was the first time either of us had seen grayling so, unused to the rather delicate takes, we missed at least another dozen. No success on the nymph until we tried it New Zealand stlye, then we saw the takes. Didn't feel a single one, but certainly saw the dry fly dunked.
One lovely 8 inch wbt was caught around 2pm on a cdc olive dun in the margins.
Surface activity died off around 5.30pm but the water seemed to come alive with rises just after 7pm as soon as I'd removed my waders...
All fish caught on cdc olives, cdc sedge, cillabaetis comparadun, soft hackle PTN with and without beadhead, fished upstream.
A lovely day.
