Beautiful day to give my first try at grayling. Mrs. C even said "you haven't been fishing in a while". Didn't have to ask me twice, so headed to the Monnow. Try as I might, didn't have a touch today. Will return with some proper grayling bugs and hopefully some more knowledge. River had some colour, but was clearing and dropped about 2 inches when I was there. A very small hatch at 2:30 wasn't really enough to stir up any risers. Still beats working. Thanks WUF.

A lovely sunny day with the river in good condition if a little dirty after the recent rain. Another enjoyable day landing 4 chub up to 5.5lb all caught on luncheon meat.

This was my first visit to this stretch of the Wye and it initially looked very good, however, the river was running fast with a substantial amount of debris being carried through. I took a bit of advice from a couple of guys fishing already and fished top meadow swim. Within half an hour caught 10.1lb barbel, really pleased with this as first double. Source boilies the successful bait. Nothing for rest of day until Rudi the stand in Baliff turned up, (thanks for the help and nice to meet you!) and caught 5lb chub. Lovely stretch be back when work allows.

Our first time on this stretch we had a look round and started fishing about 12.30 pm on the upper part of the beat.
The river was fairly coloured and the current was gradually picking up pace throughout the afternoon as a result of the incessant rain.
The fishing was fairly slow but bites came steadily, and we ended with 9 barbel with a biggest at 9lb 12oz and 7 ranging from 7 to 8 1/2lb, plus a few chub.
The average size of the barbel was higher than we've experienced on other beats and most appeared noticeably deeper bodied, but this was possibly more to do with the time of year than the beat.
Yet again great fun, stunning looking fish and infinitely better than working.

Although Colin was unable to meet us on the day his advice on the phone was very helpful. Access to the river exellent, fished at Salmon hut. My 12 year old son had two Barbel 5 to 7 lbs, I also had two 5 to 8lbs, all caught on hair rigged pellet and in superb condition. The heavy rain did't dampen our spirits. The beat is superb and we will return as soon as possible to fish the rest of the beat.

Slow fishing, started at the lower end but didn't have a bite. Moved up to the top end around 2pm, lost a rig in a snag and on second cast within 5 minutes hooked in to a nice looking 5lb barbel. Only fish of the day but still a great day out - thanks WUF.

A lovely bright day after a cold start - but the fish weren't very cooperative (or more likely we were incompetent): 9 barbel and 3 chub between us. The highlight of my day was first ever close encounter with a Wye otter!
