Decided that I had to get out on the river after 6 weeks without fishing.
River up/rising and pushing through, absolutely no chance of a fish, but it was good to be out in the autumn sunshine.

Desperate conditions, the river looked really good and we anticipated a good day, two bites all day and lashing rain, one to be remembered, for all the wrong reasons.
Better next time.

One rainbow trout caught on small fly. Difficult conditions - blustery and cold with heavy showers!

Morning air temperature a barmy 11 degrees, river at 2.2m, thermometer in my mates bag at home. River a lovely colour with viz about a foot and not tanking through as much as we feared. Both started at the bottom, me in the swim that's been most kind to us this year and Steve in another. He got bites from chub steadily through the morning and then 4 barbel through the day and unsurprisingly stayed where he was. I had one bite pulling out of a small chub and tried another 2 swims down the bottom for 3 chub before moving up the top for the last 2 hours. Two 6lb barbel saved my day (Steve's were between 3 and 7) to make it a satisfying day for both of us. GB feeders and a wide selection of hookbaits.

6 Barbel, 13 Chub
