Caught a small grayling to a nymph very early on at the bottom of the beat. This was the only take. Changed fly a couple of times. Fished a dry fly in the afternoon, a few fish moved but refused to take.

Another late afternoon session waited for things to cool down , fished a peg at the very top of the beat near to the car park . Had a decent Chub on the first chuck after baiting up for about an hour and a Barbel on the second. Went very slow, decided to rest the swim for a while kept the Hemp going in and two more Barbel followed which rounded of a great afternoons fishing.

Fished 5.30pm til 9.30pm. Kept one 12” brown trout caught on a dry

Fished dawn till dusk.

Boilie and feeder seemed to work better than lead and barrel shaped hook baits. Pellets also worked.

Float fished meat during the day produced good sport wading.

Very enjoyable day fishing midday to dusk on this beat but little fly life coming off and only a few fish seen rising during the day, the hoped for evening rise didn't happen. Other folks were enjoying the warm weather and river too around the Bell and downstream. Conditions meant scratching my head and trying different tactics to draw fish out from the likely lies (no joy) and so resorting to prospecting the riffles, heads and tails of pools and glides. Grayling tempted by weighted pheasant tails at heads of deeper pools, trout taken on nymphs.
